Afterward, Martin was more anxious to talk about the team’s weekend trip to Wilson where it defeated a tough First Flight squad 3-2 on Friday before losing to Broughton, the No. 1 ranked team in 4-A, on Saturday. The Patriots took a 1-0 lead against Broughton in the second minute on a goal by Cain.      It was the first of the season scored against the 10-0-1 Caps. The Pats held the lead until the 31st minute. Broughton scored twice before halftime and eventually grabbed a 6-1 victory.      “Right before the game started,” Martin recalled, “someone told the girls that Broughton was ranked fifth in the country. Their reaction was ‘Oh, my god, oh, my god.’ I told them not to worry about it. Then two minutes into the game Latanya scores. It was amazing. For 30 minutes we were beating the No. 5 team in the country and at halftime we were still in it.”      Fields thinks the Broughton match was a good experience for the team.      “It really challenged us,” she said. “Sometimes we play to the level of our competition. That was good because it brought out the best in us."      The Patriots face a match against another undefeated team when 13th ranked Lumberton (10-0-1) comes to Pinecrest for a non-conference game on Friday.
