The Pinecrest girls’ soccer team came from behind to defeat First Flight 3-2 in a match played in Wilson Friday night. The Patriots, now 9-2, were scheduled to play Broughton, the No. 1 ranked 4-A team in the state, on Saturday, as a part of the Brittany Soccer Showcase being held in Wilson. The Patriots’ Latanya Cain opened the scoring, but First Flight responded by scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead at halftime. Ann Fields tied the match early in the second half off an assist from Cain. With about 16 minutes left in the match, Fields took a shot that was knocked away by the goalkeeper, but teammate Christina Consalvo finished the rebound for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The loss was the first of the season for First Flight (8-1-0), the fourth-ranked team in 1-A/2-A. The win was the 199th in the career of Patriot coach Lorna Martin. <-Previous 3-29-06 at Seventy-First (W, 7-0) 4-1-06 vs #1 Broughton (L, 1-6) Next-> |
