PATRIOTS BEAT HOKE IN GIRLS' SOCCER
By Charlie Bergmann: Staff Writer, The Pilot, Appeared Wednesday, March 24th, 2004
The Pinecrest girls' soccer team moved to 6-0 overall with a 13-0 Mid-Southeastern Conference victory at Hoke County Monday night.
The Patriots take a 3-0 league record and number-10 ranking in the latest 4-A North Carolina Soccer Coach's Association poll to Jack Britt tonight for 5 p.m. junior varsity and 7 p.m. varsity matches with first place on the line. The Bucs' varsity comes into the game with a record of 3-0 in the conference and 6-1 overall. The match, originally scheduled to be played at Pinecrest, was moved because of the work being done on the school's track.
Against the Bucks, senior Anne Brannon got the Patriots going in each half. She scored the first goal in about the 10th minute, finishing a throw-in from Lora Smith. With Pinecrest leading 5-0, she found the net twice early in the second half as the Patriot starters retired for the evening shortly thereafter.
Other goal scorers for the Pats were Lauren Broderick (two), Megan Cole (two), Molly Lynch, Maggie Gartman, Katie Fields, Ann Fields, Stephanie Carter and Lisa Southerland. Katelyn Burwell and Molly Hill each played a half in the goal, as the Patriots recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
Hoke fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference with the loss.
