Monday night at the John Williams Athletic Complex, the Pinecrest boys' soccer team defeated Mid-Southeastern Conference opponent Westover High 16-0. Pinecrest improved its overall record to 10-1-0 and conference record to 5-0. The Patriots have been watching their state ranking climb, finally cracking the top 10 this week in the 4-A coaches poll. Pinecrest is now ranked 10th after two impressive shutout victories last week. Pinecrest faces the Falcons of Seventy-First in a conference match tonight at home, and then travel to Fayetteville to take on Terry Sanford High School in a nonconference tilt Thursday. The Bulldogs are 8-1-2 this season. Pinecrest scored early and often against the over-matched Westover side. Coach Larry Martin was able to give many of his ailing starting 11 a night off, allowing his underclassmen an opportunity to play for significant minutes. Freshman Thomas Goulden and sophomores John Kropp, Matt Carriker, Tyler Herbst and Michael Pigg contributed to the one-sided result. In the preliminary game, the Pinecrest junior varsity soccer team took on the varsity squad from Grace Christian Academy of Sanford, ending up on the short end of a 1-0 loss. <-Previous 9-20-06 at Jack Britt (W, 6-0) 9-27-06 vs Seventy-First (W, 7-2) Next-> |
