Little things mean a lot.
The new salt bins provided
by our Plaid Council are a modest but very welcome proposal. Residents
have wanted them for many years but our opponents (who controlled the
Highway Authority for decades until 1999) were unable to respond to those
demands.
Better financial
management has allowed Plaid to double the number of grit bins available
throughout Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Adrian said "The bins
won't solve every problem but they may make it safer and easier for
residents to get in and out of their streets in icy weather.
We asked our newsletter
distributors to let us know, from their personal experience, where they
thought the worst spots were.
Then we looked at the
Council's precautionary gritting route (which have also been extended). We
sited bins on steep hills to make it a little easier for residents to
access the roads which, in icy weather and snow, will be gritted by the
Council ".
The salt should be used
for roads only (not private drives). It is most effective on icy roads.
Once snow has settled it may not be sufficient to make the road safe.
