As a result of this, Mika Häkkinen won the 1998 FIA Formula One World Championship and West McLaren Mercedes took the constructor's championship title.

1999 McLaren-Mercedes: The McLaren Team's 1999 was a problemfilled year. Still Mika took 11 pole positions and won 5 races. Despite all the technical problems (and probably noone can forget when Coulthard [the clumpsy bastard] hit Mika or when one of Mika's tyres suddenly fell off during the race after a pit stop!!!) Mika still managed to keep his head clear, but he had to fight for his title until the very end, and by winning the last GP in Suzuka he did it again.Mika Häkkinen won the 1999 FIA Formula One World Championship

2000 McLaren-Mercedes: Bad  bad BAD start for the McLaren Team, Australia: Drop-out. Brazil: Drop-out. San Marino: Problems! But Mika still made it to the finishing line which is obviously a HUGE step forward for the McLaren Team *being sarcastic*. As the Finnish newspapers write: "Mika can, McLaren can't!" But we have not lost faith yet! Mika is not the two times World Champion for nothing, and the season is still long, thank God. Thumbs up for our hero....
