Mika's comment at the arrival to Britain: "I really like racing at Silverstone since its a very challenging circuit and a lot of fun to drive. We want to win the Grand Prix this weekend and the team is working hard to help us achieve this objective". |

The qualifying session was the most exciting session that we've seen so far this season. It was impossible to tell who was going to win. When Häkkinen drove out on the track one minute after Schumi, he took the fourth position right behind Schumis third. But both drivers continued with a second lap immediately and Häkkinen took pole position almost 2 seconds faster than the previous pole position. Later both Schumi and Häkkinen once again went out on the track at the same time, and once again Häkkinen took pole position. Then they didn't return to the track before a few minutes before the session was over, and the last three minutes were SO exciting! Villeneuve took a fantastic lead but was soon beaten by Irvine, who was beaten a few seconds later by Verstappen, then Frentzen, then Barrichello. Finally when the session was over Barrichello had pole position, followed by Frentzen, then Coulthard and Häkkinen, and behind them Schumi on a fifth place. Although it was a bit sad that Häkkinen didn't take his fourth 100% consecutive pole position I was quite satisfied with the result, as long as Schumi was behind Mika... |

Mika's comment after the qualifying session: "I was not completely happy with the car's behaviour during today's qualifying as it had a tendency towards understeer. The team subsequently found a set-up error, which caused the problem. Off course starting the race from the second row will make things more difficult. Having said that without the yellow flags caused by Trulli's spin I still probably would have got pole. Tomorrow the weather will play a role in the outcome but we have done a lot of running in both wet and dry conditions at Silverstone and I believe we have a good set-up no matter what". |

The race: Once again Schumacher proved to people what kind of risks he's willing to take to pass someone, at Silverstone trying to pass Häkkinen, even with two wheels in the grass! But Häkkinen refused to back off, of course since Schumi was the one who should back off, which he finally realized, and when he slowed down he was passed by several other drivers, and suddenly he found himself on a well deserved 8th place. After that he was stuck behind Villeneuve for quite some time. The front; Barrichello, Frentzen, Coulthard, Häkkinen, Ralf Schumacher and Button soon increased the gap to Villeneuve and Schumi, and were leading the race with more than 20 seconds when it was time for the only pit stop. Häkkinens pit stop took a few more seconds than the others because of a problem which was more or less fixed, and after that he was able to catch up on Coulthard, who was leading after passing Barrichello in lap 31. Shortly after that Barrichello spund off the track and had to retire. Häkkinen was ten seconds behind with car trouble, but he finished a great second, only 1,47 second after his team mate, because he was able to reduce the gap with appr. one second per lap! Schumi came in third, almost 20 seconds after Häkkinen. Despite of Ferraris again brilliant, though different, strategy, Schumi didn't seem to be able to drive himself to a better position nor time. Frentzen had to take an extra and very long pit stop due to a broken gear box and finished 6 laps after Coulthard. |

Mika's comment after the race: "The start really decided the outcome of the race and it was unfortunate that I just lost grip while accelerating. I had a problem with my car in this morning's warm-up which meant that I didn't get a lot of track time and we were unable to make the final adjustments to our race set-up. As a result I was not happy with the balance of the car in the race. We made a minor change in my pit stop and I was able to go quicker but we needed more than that. The car did improve towards the end when there was a lot more grip on the track surface and I was clear of traffic so I was able to close the gap to David". |

Last year Michael Schumacher crashed at the Stowe corner but fortunately only broke his leg, and the race was rescheduled to continue 40 minutes later. Mika was leading big but after the first pit stop he got problems and had to return to the pit already the following lap. Then the incredible thing happened when one of his tyres suddenly fell of during the race, but luckily Mika maintained control of the car and managed to drive back to the pit with just three tyres. Of obvious reasons the team decided to pull him out of the race and Coulthard won. |
