Patty
Quotes:
This album and Patty, won more awards than I have teeth. "When Fallen Angels Fly," was the second album released with Epic Records, and was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year, and it also made history by becoming the second album from a female, to win Album Of The Year from the CMA. The fact that it made it into this category was a bit of luck, at the expense, unfortunately, of Allison Krauss. Allison's "Greatest Hits" Album was originally nominated, but the nomination was withdrawn due to the rules of the CMA nomination process. An album must contain over 60% original material to qualify for a nomination. When the error of Allison's nomination was discovered the 6th place vote getter replace Allison's album, who just happened to be Patty. Can anyone say destiny? This album contains another extraordinary collection of songs. From the ever popular I Try To Think About Elvis, to another once in a lifetime song You Don't Even Know Who I Am. For me the best song on this album is the title cut, When The Fallen Angels Fly. Unfortunately, it was probably not, as they say, radio friendly enough to be released as a single, or to break it down in English, it is not the mindless drivel that prevails on radio today, that they love to shove down our throats. (sorry...just venting a personal issue.) Besides the title cut being a standout song, two others fall into that category, Here I Am, and Over My Shoulder. One concert I attended in 95' where Patty performed Here I Am, was done absolutely perfect, it brought the crowd silent, and a standing ovation when it was over, gave me chills. These songs I have mentioned showcase Patty at her finest. When The Fallen Angels Fly. Here are a few interesting side notes to this album. First, John Berry recorded and released his version of Over My Shoulder. John has an incredible voice, and did a good take with the song. Also, Ty Herndon was wanting to record for his next album Here I Am, a song he did during sound checks, but Patty beat him to the studio. There is one more interesting side note, which is , this is the first album Vince Gill did not sing background vocals. (Hmmmm.......better not go there) This album is a definite must for any country music fan. Well, faithful and rowdy reader, we are coming close to the end. Just
two more albums to go. I hope you have taken notice that I have gotten
over my little spell of using song titles in my sentences. Guess I have
just been Lonely Too Long. Sometimes it seems that I
sit here and type, and then retype some sentences a Thousand Times A Day. But I do not mind, because I do this for you.
Simply put, I love each and everyone of you. To me Everybody Is
Equal In The Eyes Of Love. Ok! Ok! I admit it. I have a little Trouble
With The Truth. Those who have abandoned us in the middle of my
story are not at the top of my list, and
Spellcheker NotesSomeone has been griping about me not doing enough Spellcheker Notes, so to appease this person, who shall remain nameless, I am doing one today. We all know the story behind the album When Fallen Angels Fly, and how, as Patty says, she "backed into it". But there is more to it than that. This award actually came to her by prayer. It seems that after Patty discovered she was nominated for Female Vocalist that year, she was pleased, but not really. Her band and all the people she worked with, she felt, were so much more deserving than just "her" being nominated. The night the nominations were announced, Patty was on the road, and before she went to sleep that night, she said a prayer. The prayer basically was asking for something to happen...something to show everyone that what they were doing was not in vain. The next day, after a workout, she came back to have several phone messages waiting for her. These messages were telling her that When Fallen Angels Fly had been nominated for Album of the Year...and the rest is history. Some people call it "destiny" some call it "divine intervention". It was both. God knew it was destiny, and answered her prayer.
