The form is practiced in a light, relaxed manner with a calm spirit, a concentrated mind and the movements co-ordinated with the breathing. The form is light, lively, balanced and slow and without using strength or force, one comes to find a new way of moving.

As well as an exercise for health, Tai Chi is a soft Martial Art. Soft in this case means that no force is used against an attack. The Tai Chi practitioner yields to the oncoming attack, joining, following and finally discharging the attacker without the use of brute force.
