This is Headrush

History

Headrush formed over easter 2001. Mal and Murray had met in September 2000 at Nottingham Uni and met Ben not long after. After all mouthing off about forming a band for most of the year Mal and Ben were the first to get off their arses and actually book a slot in an Open Mic Night in the Student Union. Having the gig meant we actually had to do something so with Mal on vocals and guitar, Murray on guitar and Ben on bass we sorted out three songs to play and practiced an acoustic version of the Deftones Be Quiet and Drive to fill the set-list.
The afor-mentioned songs, Seperate Ways, Sundays and Deja Vu had all started life in Mal's school bands and were given an overhaul til they sounded like Headrush wanted to sound. The tiny problem of not actually having a drummer meant we had little choice but to play the gig on acoustics, though this probably didn't hurt our appeal to the Travis fan-brigade!
This line up played the Bandsoc Open Mic night to vast approval, or to quote an audience member, "You were the only band who didn't suck". Despite repeated attempts to get a drummer, by the time of the Uni Battle of the Bands, the line up was still the same. Having only been together for a month, and sans percussion, second place from eight was a decent achievement.
Then in september 2001, they came across Pete, a fresher who happened to play drums. After a couple of practices, the line up was cemented. More songs written, and more gigs played. December saw the recording of 'The Shadowboxer Sessions' / 'Pristine Studio Sessions' (depending on which member of the band you ask) demo, featuring Seperate Ways, Drinking Games and Collapse. The band are preparing for more gigs in the coming year, and possibly a UK tour (we've just got to find the flying pigs who'll transport us around the country). So now you know.
