In the small, sleepy town of Maycomb, Alabama lives a community plagued by a disease: Racism. When lawyer Atticus Finch is called to defend a Negro man accused of rape, the citizens of Maycomb find themselves in a muddle. Which is more important: justice or ones own beliefs?
Told through the eyes of Atticus daughter Scout, Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird is a tale of growing up and learning about the world around you. Joined by her brother Jem and their friend Dill, Scout recounts her childhood days of mayhem (trying to get a mysterious neighbor to come out), and maturity. The kids become exposed to the danger of racism. They learn, as well as give, important lessons about good parenting, understanding others, faith, and courage.
As some people say, To Kill a Mockingbird is an "almost-perfect" novel, due to its boldness to speak out to everyone about racism, and its innocent point of view. The Pulitzer Prize winning novel has been turned into a major Academy Award winning motion picture once, and now again.
