Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions Page! Here we hope to answer any questions you may have regarding IRC, our network and our server. If you should have a question that is not answered for you here, please feel free to e-mail Kelli or Mikee and they will be happy to answer your question.

WHAT IS IRC?

The initials IRC stand for Internet Relay Chat. IRC is a medium used by millions of people all over the world, as a means of communication with others through their computers. It is a way of carrying on conversations with others as if they were in the same room with you. It is also used to transfer files from one computer to another, including music files, movie files, text documents, and even pictures.

WHAT IS mIRC?

mIRC is the most popular of several available chat clients that you can download to use for chatting with. Please see the LINKS section of our site for more information and links to web sites where you can download these clients.

WHAT IS THE @ SYMBOL BY SOMEONE'S NAME?

The @ symbol indicates that the person is an IRC Operator. This person is available to help you with any questions you may have while you are in chat, they are there to ensure the safety of all users (including protecting users from those who are there to cause harm via nuking, harrassment, etc.), and they can direct you to channels which may interest you, or help you with the services that are available on the network.

WHAT IS THE + SYMBOL BY SOMEONE'S NAME?

The + symbol is used mostly when a channel has been moderated. A channel can be moderated for various reasons, but mostly when there is a control factor involved. When a channel is moderated, only those persons with a + by their name are given a "voice", in other words, only those persons are allowed to post in the channel. Sometimes a voice is given to users just for kindness, even though a channel isn't moderated. When this happens, it means that you are one step away from being an operator in that channel.

HOW CAN I BECOME AN IRCop?

IRC Operators, or IRCops as they are more commonly known, are persons who are experienced in chat, know the rules and commands necessary for maintaining order in the network, and are mature, friendly people. Each server adminitrator and/or co-administrator is responsible for the hiring of these persons. It is a job that does not pay monetarily, but does have many intangible rewards. If you are interested in helping the network, this may be a good position for you. It is common practice to first chat with the network, learn as much as you can, gain experience in all aspects of chat, and after a reasonable amount of time, you could be offered a postion by one of the administrators. Please keep in mind that there may not be any positions available at the time you may choose to inquire, and patience is always appreciated.

If you have any questions regarding chat, please let us know. We are always happy to help you in any way that we can. If you feel that you have been wronged in any way, contact one of our IRCops for assistance.
