Languages

Here are all the Elvish phrases in the movie and also some Black Speech, Dwarvish, and Rohirric too.  They are in movie order.  The Fellowship of the Ring is in the order of the Extended Edition.  Most of the language is the Sindarin form of Elvish so that is what it is unless otherwise stated.

Arwen: Renech i lu i erui govannen? (Do you remember when we first met?)

Aragorn: Nauthannem i ned ol reniannen. (I thought I had strayed into a dream.)

ArwenGwenwin in enninath...U-arnech in naeth i si celich. (Long years have passed…You did not have the cares you carry now.)

Arwen: Renech i beth i pennen? (Do you remember what I told you?)

Gandalf at the Council of Elrond:

Haldir: Mae govannen, Legolas Thranduilion. (Welcome Legolas, son of Thranduil

 

Legolas: Govannas vîn gwennen le, Haldir o Lórien. (Our Fellowship stands in your debt, Haldir of Lórien.)>>

Haldir: A, Aragorn in Dúnedain istannen le ammen. (Oh, Aragorn of the Dúnedain, you are known to us.)>>

Aragorn: Boe ammen veriad lîn. Andelu i ven! (We need your protection. The road is fell!)>>

Aragorn: Merin le telim. (I wish we may come with you.)>>

 

Aragorn: Henio, aníron boe ammen i dulu lîn! (Please, understand, we need your support!)>>

 

Aragorn: Andelu i ven. (The road is very dangerous

 

Celeborn (warningly): Le aphadar aen. (You are being followed.)>>

Galadriel: Namárië. (Farewell.) Nadath nâ i moe cerich. (There is much you have yet to do.)

Galadriel: <she looks into Aragorn’s eyes, with both sorrow and joy dancing in her own> Dan…ú-'eveditham, Elessar. (We shall not meet again, Elessar.)

 

The Two Towers

Legolas:  Hiro hum hidh ab 'wanath. (May they find peace after death.)

 

Legolas: Aragorn, nad nâ ennas! (Something is out there.)

Aragorn: Man cenich? (What do you see?)

Gandalf (Rohirric): Westu hál. Ferðu, Théodred, Ferðu. (Be-thou well. Go-thou, Théodred, go-thou.)

 

Aragorn: Min lû pennich nin i aur hen telitha. (You told me once that this day would come.)

Arwen:  Ú i vethed... nâ i onnad. Boe bedich go Frodo. Han bâd lîn. (This is not the end... it is the beginning. You must go with Frodo. That is your path.)

Aragorn:  Dolen i vâd o nin. (My path is hidden from me.)

Arwen: Si peliannen i vâd na dail lîn. Si boe ú-dhannathach. (It is already laid before your feet. You cannot falter now.)

Arwen: Ae ú-esteliach nad... estelio han. Estelio ammen. (If you trust nothing else... trust this. Trust us.)

Aragorn: Idhren emmen menna gui ethwel. Hae o auth a nîr a naeth. (You have a chance for another life. Away from war... grief... despair.)

Elrond: Tollen i lû. I chair gwannar na Valannor. Si bado, no círar. (Arwen, it is time. The ships are leaving for Valinor. Go now... before it is too late.)

Elrond: A im, ú-'erin veleth lîn? (Do I not also have your love?)

Arwen:  Gerich meleth nîn, ada. (You have my love, father)

Legolas: Le ab-dollen. (You’re late)

 

Legolas: Boe a hûn: neled herain dan caer menig! (And they should be... Three hundred against ten thousand!)

Aragorn: Si beriathar hýn. Amar nâ ned Edoras. (They have more hope of defending themselves here than at Edoras.)

Legolas: Aragorn, men i ndagor. Hýn ú-... ortheri. Natha daged aen! (Aragorn, we are warriors. They cannot win this fight. They are all going to die!)

 

Aragorn: Ú-moe edhored, Legolas. (There is nothing to forgive, Legolas

 

Aragorn: A Eruchîn, ú-dano i faelas a hyn an uben tanatha le faelas! (Show them no mercy! For you shall receive none!)

Aragorn: Dartho! (Hold!)

 

Aragorn: Tangado halad! (Prepare to fire!)

Legolas: Faeg i-varv dîn na lanc a nu ranc. (Their armor is weak at the neck and underneath the arms.)

Aragorn: Leithio i philinn! (Release the arrows!)

Aragorn: Pendraid! (Ladders!)

 

Aragorn: Na fennas! (Causeway!)


Aragorn: Togo hon dad, Legolas! (Bring him down, Legolas!) Dago hon! Dago hon! (Kill him! Kill him!)

Aragorn:  Hado i philinn! (Hurl the arrows!)


Aragorn: Herio! (Charge!)

Aragorn: Na Barad! Na Baraad! Haldir, na Barad! (To the Keep! Haldir, to the Keep!)
