You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which
you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to Say to
Yourself," I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that
comes along"... You
must do the thing you think you cannot do"
Eleanor Roosevelt

EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING THEY HAD TO OVERCOME IN LIFE. SOME HAD TO STEP OVER MOLE HILLS, WHILE OTHERS HAD TO CLIMB MOUNTAINS. WE ALL HAVE OBSTICLES PUT ON OUR PATH. EACH LIFE DEPENDS ON IF WE CHOOSE TO CLIMB THAT MOUNTAIN OR LIVE AT THE BOTTOM.

IF YOU HAVE A SHORT STORY OR POEM ABOUT WHAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME SEND TO OVERCOMING
As a little girl growing up the big city ,
I learned at an early age that
I was different then the other kids.
I couldn't hear or understand
what was being said. I was labled as
a child that day dreamed to
much and wouldn't pay attention. No one
could understand me either
when I talked , so I was placed in
speech class in grade school.
That is where I learned to lip-read,
to speak, and be normal as I could.
This was the 1960's and being
Hard of Hearing was not something
anyone wanted to be.Even then I
always had a dream. My one
dream was to be a Nurse and take care
of people who needed me.
My dream was quickly crushed because
I wasn't "smart enough".I
kept my hearing loss a secret for many,
many years.I kept my dream
to myself also.I knew that I would never
get the chance to be a Nurse
so I gave up on my dream.
Then after many years of secrets
and prayers,
I got my chance. This was the end of the
1990's but still I was afraid
to tell my secrets.I took the entrance
exam for the local LPN Program.
I passed and was accepted. No one was more surprized then me.
I spent many hours learning new
words that might come up in class.
The day finally came for the first day
of class and I amost backed out
because I was too scared.I said a
little prayer and walked in the
building, with all my secrets tucked in
my pocket with my lucky charms.
I didn't know on that first day that
this would change me forever .
I kept my secrets for almost four weeks
and studied very hard, because
I was determined to show everyone that
I could do it.I was getting so
tired, felted like I had nothing else
to lose.I couldn't handle all this
alone anymore.I was ready to give up.
I went to tell my secret to an
instructor and waited for her to be
like everyone else had been. She
looked at me and smiled. For the first
time in my life I wasn't being
told that I can't do this. Then she did
something that would change my
whole life.
She
opened her arms and hugged me. I had
found the first of many friends.
Now after almost a year and many,
many hours of studying I am getting
ready to graduate. My dream is coming
true.The three instructors of this
local school have taken thier time
to help me fulfill a life long dream.
They didn't have to do anything but
they did. Each in thier own way helped
me to believe in myself and see myself as a whole person that can climb that
mountain. They have taken me from being that scared Hard-of-Hearing little girl,
and helped me to become a Nurse, who is
Proud to be Deaf.
I owe alot to these ladies, they have taken the time to be friend
and help my dream come true. I have
tried to think of a way to thank them,
for all that they have done. There are
no words that will express my gratitude
for all they have given to me.
TO THOSE LADIES;****
I would like to say thank you and may God bless you with all the joy and happiness that you have given me.You deserve so much more. ~ ~ HUGS TO ALL ~ ~
