To assist deaf/hoh students in classroom environment.

· If you are an instructor… have student sit where they are most comfortable and can see most of class members and instructors, try to always face the student.

· Make copies of your daily class outline, give before class starts so student can follow along.

· Have another student take notes.

· Make sure all videos are captioned.

· With other students giving presentations make sure they copy their outline for the deaf/hoh student before giving presentation.

· With pronouncing medical terms- allow student extra time. If student lip-reads they will need assistance with medical terms. Have student make flash cards with words need help with and ask for class volunteers to assist student pronounce words from flash cards… will help both students….

· Ask student at beginning of class to give presentation how other students can assist them. Have them explain how/what they hear and how much or how little they hear.

· Yes, deaf/hoh student can do surgical rotations with little accommodations. (clear face masks, extra person to write notes)

· Yes, deaf/hoh student can do EVERYTHING other student can do. Just need do in different way.( Brain storm with student different ways they can do something and get same results.)

· Clinical sites should be deaf/hoh friendly ( have flashing lights as well as ringing bells for all equipment in use. Be aware of ADA Regulations for patients and students.)
