The Comedy Club |
|
| Each meeting starts off with everyone warming up with improv,
followed by learning an improv structure. This makes you feel like speaking and heightens
your performance level. The general evaluator, timer and grammarian explanations are next
along with stating the goals of the people speaking at this meeting. We then get into
speeches and table topics. At times we have a special guest speaker, such as a
professional comedian. This is to show the variety of styles that exist. Seeing them and
being able to ask questions helps our members determine what they want to do and how they
want to do it. We then teach a comedy technique, such as the much-overstated rule of
three, tag lines, call backs, puns, etc. This is where we deal with the realities of humor
and straighten out misinformation. This section is presented by stand up comedians that
have performed on stages locally and across the country. Next is a current events
monologue, just like you see on Leno or Letterman, but done by one of our members. The
general evaluator section is next, with two evaluations per speech, plus comments from the
rest of the club, timers report and grammarian report. Our meetings end with an open
lectern segment. This is where anyone can have up to a minute to tell a joke or story they
wrote or heard. As you can see, we fit a lot into our meetings. We truly are a
Toastmasters Plus program.
