Cheryl's photo of completed Spiral Doily crocheted by CherylCheryl's photo of completed Spiral Doily crocheted by Cheryl     This page is MY attempt at writing down what I did in words to make MY version of what I call the spiral doily/table runner pattern from the Russian site at this URL. Please note that my notes for this pattern have not been tested by anyone else other than myself as of yet and should be considered as my "rough draft" (or a WIP) for the pattern as I hope to be adding more information as well as photos whenever I have the time in order to help clarify my notes to try to help some of my online friends make the doily for themselves as they have some problems with reading/understanding/following a graph/diagram for a pattern.
I want to make it clear that this is NOT the actual pattern for the doily as displayed on the Russian site. The Russian page/site has links to 3 charts/diagrams/graphs for the pattern that you can see for yourself by clicking on the links on the above page that are shown as
"cxeme 1," (figure 1); "cxeme 2," (scheme 2); "cxeme 3," (figure 3). Basically, the written information on the page at the Russian site is about making the doilies in different sizes by varying the pattern shown in the diagrams/figures.
(FYI, I do NOT read, write, or speak the Russian language and had to depend on my own intuition/knowledge/judgment as well as some translation help from Google and some online friends at Crochetville and MoEZ who did their best to try to translate the information on that page.)
The doily/table runner that I made is not actually shown on the page at the Russian site. The one I made is a larger version of the doily displayed at the site. I used the diagrams for figure 1 and figure 3 at the site to make the larger version. The diagram for figure 1 is used for making the 1st of the 2 circles used for the pattern. I also used it for making the 2nd circle but had to refer to the diagram for figure 3 to find out how to join the 1st circle to the 2nd circle while in the process of making the 2nd circle.
I definitely recommend to anyone who wants to make this doily that they print out the diagrams for figure 1 and 3 from the Russian site. Figure 2 or scheme 2 is the diagram for the smaller circle doily on the page that is pictured next to the small version of the spiral doily table runner (the 3rd photo on the page at the Russian site). I saved a copy of each of those figures/diagrams to my computer and used IrfanView to open them up for better viewing/printing on/from my computer.
You can see the WIP (and soon to be added - the completed one(s) as well) photos of my spiral doily table runner in my Epson album.
You can also find Granny Square's notes for HER version(s) of the Spiral Doilies she made in her posting at Crochetville. She created a "Waving Flag Doily" version based on her version of the Spiral Doily pattern she made.

(FYI: I used a Susan Bates steel crochet hook U.S. size 7 (1.5mm) & sz. 10 crochet thread (DMC's Traditions Crochet Cotton art 145 Color - 5798 Delft Blue, 350 y/320 m, 2 oz/56 g) for making my first solid blue version of the doily/table runner. BTW, I am in the process of making another spiral doily table runner using Coats & Clark Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread Color 0995 Ocean, 300 yards/274 m.)
