Darkness; an unfathomable epitome of darkness. All that surrounded him was darkness, as though it all was nothing; nothing at all. Then, erupting through all that seemed so bleak, was a presence; not tangible, but yet still there. And with that presence, came a light; a memory of sorts; no, a prediction of what was yet to come.
It was their wedding day, and he was there, standing alone for the time being dressed in a stunning black tuxedo that was graced with only a single red rose held high by a lapel. It was perfect; utterly perfect.
An outdoor wedding, with a theme that was composed entirely of roses. He took a moment to marvel at the picturesque scene then, much to his alarm, found himself standing at the altar. The music began to play, and the chatter of guests that had suddenly appeared in the silence, abruptly ended with only a few hushed whispers lingering on. It was everything he had ever dreamed of! Makoto, all in a stunning green, was first to come up the aisle with her escort, followed quickly by Minako, who wore a pale orange dress, then Ami, in a soft blue one, and finally Rei in an engaging red gown as the Maid of Honor. The music slowed mildly, and the shuffle of dresses could be heard as everyone rose to their feet. All heads turned to the entrance gate, awaiting the beloved woman who was soon to be his bride.
There she was; so radiant, smiling in her enchanting way. Her Odangos lovingly adorned with miniature white and pink roses. Her dress fastened in the same style as the one of the princess, only this time even more refined and stunning as it too was trimmed with the same heavenly flowers. But her face was the fairest and most beautiful sight that could have ever come to him; the slight accent of rogue that gilded her soft cheeks and enhanced her spectacularly captivating and crystalline blue eyes along with the silky sheen that had been applied to her lips gave her an aura of utmost perfection. He nearly collapsed at the sight of her. She was truly amazing he decided, watching her fairly glide up the aisle with such grace he had never seen the likes of before. As she neared the altar his eyes caught her own, and if she was radiant before, she was brilliant and stellar now.
The ceremony proceeded flawlessly. There was not syllable stuttered, or even a single escaped cry of a child that could brake the utter perfection of it all; nothing. Not that he would have noticed. His eyes were transfixed on her own, in a seemingly unending abyss of love. And even if he didn't truly hear the words, they still meant more than life itself as the time for pledging commitment drew ever closer.
"And do you, Chiba Mamoru, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health until death do you part?" The room was filled with a silence almost as tense as his own anticipation. He looked toward her heavenly face once more, then proceeded in saying possibly the most sought after words in his life.
"I do."
But even as he said it, something changed. This bliss that had become his reality was suddenly struck full force, rocking violently before him. He looked to his Usako, for protection, for assurance, for anything that kept this fantasy true through the confusion of it all. Looking down into her eyes he saw none of the utter joy so notable before; no, now his gaze was met with one of ultimate terror. Her mouth opened in a scream; silent, just as everything around him. He reached out to gather her in his arms; to encompass her with his own assurance that everything was all right. But it was as though the world was crumbling, disintegrating beneath him, sending his beautiful Usako to her death. He cried her name from his position on his knees, pounding the ground in frustration and sorrow as she fell. He couldn't save her; nothing could, but he felt he should have. The violent jerking of the earth beneath him ceased, and he looked at the destruction around him.
There she was, some 30 feet below, her body twisted in an unnatural and sickening way having fallen to her now unavoidable fate. He stared hard at her limp body, unbelieving of what he saw. Her eyes were dull, and her face had been contorted from that of happiness to sheer pain. Then, in the awful silence, the excruciating despair of the situation, there came a voice. A dull, lifeless voice which simply stated, as though there was not a care in the world, "If you want to see her live, stay away from her now. You are what will be her demise."
Gomen, short again, I know! Life just isn't cooperating right now. Also, I'm sorry that this chapter only played out one scene, the inevitable dream sequence. I just thought that it deserved to be more detailed then a lot of the ones you read which merely state that they're getting married, and then Usagi dies. So what did you think, ne? Feedback is welcome. I'll worship you forever...if someone gets up the guts to e*mail me. Really, I promise, I don't bite! Flames are welcome as well as criticism and praise. ~Moon Dream~
