"I don't love you anymore"
The words coursed through her mind as she stared after him. Her one true love. The man she would do anything for, even die. Where had this hate come from? What had she done to hurt him; to turn him away from her? She stared down at her hands, the hands that had once held him as he held her with such love, so undaunted. Where had it gone? She knew where it had gone. It had left with him. But why? Why did he have to leave her? Her legs weak, she collapsed to the ground; golden hair streaming about her in the wind. She buried her head in her hands, trying to disappear into the fiery bliss of the salty tears flowing over her reddened cheeks.
Somewhere in the shadows a figure stood watching her sorrowful visage as it was racked again and again with overwhelming waves of anguish. Anger welled up inside of him. She shouldn't have to be so hurt. He was going to tear apart whoever had done this to her. He couldn't believe anyone would even dare to harm as beautiful a flower as she before him. Then reality struck, like an arrow to his heart, and he realized why she was crying so. It was because of him. An unexplainable sadness washed over him as a solitary tear slipped down his cheek. He had done this. He had caused her all this pain. It was his fault, not anyone else's, and it tore him apart inside. Oh how he wished he could run to her, sweep her up into his loving arms and tell her it was all OK. But no, he couldn't do that. He couldn't hold his love anymore, he couldn't even be with her.
All because of those stupid dreams.
It had started about two weeks ago after a date with his beautiful Usako, the love of his life. They had had a wonderful time at a party hosted by one of his professors, and he had just brought her home after one last kiss in the moonlight....
"I love you, Mamo-chan," Usagi whispered breathlessly after leaning back from their long kiss, "forever and ever."
Mamoru could feel the warmth of her breath on his neck, her sweet perfume filling his senses with her undying love.
"I love you too, Usako."
A contented sigh broke from her lips as she hugged him tightly one last time before pulling away rather wistfully. She smiled at him, (Oh, that her smile out shone all the sun and stars combined!) then slowly turned to face the door as she whispered a barely audible "Goodnight, Mamo-chan." How he longed to keep her disappearing frame with him, to hold for all eternity. But then he remembered her smile; that enduring bliss of beauty and love that made everything worthwhile, and he knew for now it was enough.
Twenty minutes later he pulled into the driveway of his apartment complex, thoughts still dwelling on his beautiful Usagi. He trudged up the stairs to his apartment, stopping only to fumble with the keys at the door. Now inside, he discarded his jacket carelessly on a nearby chair as he made his way into the bathroom where he proceeded to take a shower before going to bed.
Mamoru padded into the bedroom and sank down onto the bed. It had been a wonderful day. He dwelled on the words of his Usako, and the love that she so openly shared with him. Leaning back against the headboard, he smiled as he thought about the day ahead. He was going to pick her up around eleven and then they were going to go for a picnic in Jubaan City Park. Just the thought of seeing her made his heart soar past every moon and star in the sky, and with these thoughts Mamoru found himself disappearing into sleep.
Gomen, gomen...I know it's short! Forgive me! So did you like it? Hate it? Please send feedback to Junon12@aol.com. I'd really appreciate it. Yah, I know it's kind of redundant, all these stories that have to do with this part of the return series but, I promise I won't stick to the basics very much. Count this as fair warning; I'm using this event to give you an idea of where we are in the story, my plans however dictate towards an entirely different story than the one in the series. So, if you don't like the originals being messed up I'd advise not to read this because even though I'm starting out in context, I don't plan to stay there. Once again don't forget feedback!
