Chapter 17 - Beginning of the End

All she saw was darkness. She let out this little yelp. Then fell off what she thought was a bed. The door opened in front of her and she hid under the bed with fear. She closed her eyes tightly as she heard footsteps coming close to her. She held her breath. Then the bed curtain was drawn back and a face appeared under the bed. She screamed as loud and as hard as she could. A hand was placed over her mouth and she was pulled out from under the bed and put on top of it. Arms rapped around her and this safe feeling came over her and she stopped struggling. She looked at her capture. It was Sara. Serena cuddled close to her new friend. Sara played with Serena's hair gently while Serena lay crying on her lap. Luna was sitting by the cracked door. She listened as her Princess she was sworn to protect told Sara her true feelings.

"You don't know what it is like to be a ditz and klutz. All of them including Luna believe that I am incapable of growing up. They all think or thought that I wasn't fit to be a leader. They don't understand that I wanted a normal life. That's why I acted that way. I use to hope every night before I went to bed that it was just a dream. That I would wake up and I would never have to see my friends and one true love die. I would wish that I would wake up and figure out it was just a dream. They don't realize that every time I see them die a part of me dies with them. It hurts me so much. Some times I don't think I can bear to see them die again."

She burst into another fit of tears. Sara stroked her blonde hair.

"Shhh, there, there Serena. I will tell you this tell about a young girl. She fell in love with this Prince. He had blonde hair, Emerald eyes, tan skin, and the most gentiles touch. They were in deep love. Well, they had a big argument and the Prince in his rage left the girl and went away. Everybody tried in vain to reunite them, but the girl wouldn't see him. They had another argument when the Prince came to her and asked for forgiveness. The girl hurt the Prince excruciantly. Well, the Prince walked away from her and she followed him yelling at him and cursing him. But out of know where an Evil Queen came and took the Prince right in front of the girl. She fought the Evil Queen with all her might. Then a Queen of Good came and defeated the Evil Queen. The Queen of Good yelled at the girl telling her how she was disappointed in her. The Queen of Good entrapped the girl in a bubble and sent her to the moon. She was put high above the moon, but where she could see very closely what was about to happen. The girl saw another Evil Queen. This Evil Queen was attacking the Moon Kingdom. The girl screamed at the ones she was supposed to be protecting telling them to run, but it was no use. She watched as the battle raged on. She watched as her friends were killed and the Queen of Good killed. Grief over came, her and she collapsed and cried for her fallen comrades. The bubble she was in floated to the surface of the moon where the Queen of Good lay dying. The Queen told the girl because of her foolishness all these lives were lost and she will have to watch as these same people go through their troubles in the future. The girl pleaded to the Queen, and begged her so she wouldn't put the curse on her. But the curse was place."

Serena who was now sitting up looked at Sara.

"What happened to the girl?"

"She watched as her friends went through pain and suffering. But she never gave up hope that her friends could forgive her. She knew that one day she could return to her friend's side and protect them like she was supposed to do centuries before. The point is Serena the girl never gave up hope. She knew in her heart that she could earn their forgiveness. Be like that girl Serena. Never lose hope."

Sara got up off the bed and walked out of the room. Serena stared after her disappearing figure. Sara shut the door and leaned against the wall. A single tear fled down her cheek. A hand brushed that tear away. Sara looked up and saw the face of Jay.

"I'm sorry Jay. I'm so sorry."

She hugged him with all her might and cried into his chest.

"We were both wrong my Star."

She looked up at him while wiping away the tears.

"You, you remember?"

"Everything."

She hugged him again and then pulled from his embrace.

"I have to find Luna. She needs someone to talk to."

She walked away from him and towards another room. Luna was lying on a bed with purple and black silk sheets. She was crying. Sara walked softly towards the small cat.

"Why are you crying Luna?"

Luna didn't budge. She just laid there like she was afraid to move she just let out this weak meow.

"I know you can talk old one."

Luna looked back her in surprise.

"Why are you crying?"

Luna debated whether or not to speak, but she needed some one to talk to so she told Sara.

"I am ashamed."

"Of what?"

"Of not doing my job."

"And what was that?"

"Taking care of Serena." Luna looked down sadly. "I let her and her mother down."

"You didn't let anyone down Luna."

"Yes I did. I always nagged at Serena. Always pointing out her faults. I should have told her she was good at something. I should have made her feel good instead of bad. I wasn't a very good friend."

"The Princess needs to hear those things. You should always tell her she is doing something wrong, but you should encourage her to try again. Show her how to do something she doesn't know how to do."

Luna looked at Sara.

"How did you know Serena was a Princess?"

"I used to be part of her life, but that was a long time ago."

Luna looked at Sara. Then a thought hit her and her eyes widened.

"Your Sailor Universe aren't you?"

"Yes."

"But…"

Luna didn't get to say what she was about to. They both heard Jay yelling Sara's name. Both of them dashed down the stairs to see Jay holding an exhausted Serena who was struggling to get out of his grasp.

"Let me go!" she weakly, but forcefully yelled. "I must save them! It's my fault. Its all my fault."

She fell to the ground and Sara rushed to her side and pulled her to her feet.

"It is most definently NOT your fault. You must understand Serena that they made an oath centuries ago that they would protect you at all times no matter the consequences. They sacrificed their freedom cause they knew that you would free them. They put their trust in you Serena and you are their hope. It will not be wise to walk into your enemy's lair and get yourself caught because you are too weak to fight."

Serena looked at Sara.

"You are right. But I'm almost healed. I'm still Sailor Moon." Then it downed on her that she wasn't wearing her Sailor uniform. "What happened to me uniform?"

"I took it off of you." Sailor Uranus said when she entered the front room. "Sara said it would be more comfortable if you weren't dressed like that."

"Oh." She looked at Sara. "Do you know how to get to the Scouts?"

Sara looked down to the floor.

"Well, I know one way."

She motioned for them to follow her and she led them to a room. She opened the locked doors and everybody gasped at what they saw.

"What is this place Sara?"

"These dome like structures represent a Scout and her Planet. When you are finished healing we will meet at the center and I will transport us to Beryl's Old Kingdom."

Serena turned white.

"B, B Beryl's Old Kingdom?"

"Yes that is were the Scouts are being held." She looked at Serena. "Of coarse if you don't wish to return to the Evil place they will understand."

Serena glared at Sara.

"I'm going. Don't you worry about that. Just make the necessary preparations. Then come get me."

She left the room. Sailor Uranus went with her. Jay and Sara were left alone. He walked up to her and held both her hands in his.

"Well, my Star it's been a while, but do you care to dance?"

She looked at him like he was crazy.

"This is hardly the time. With all that's…."

He wrapped his arms around her and started to twirl her. She finally gave in a danced with him. Finally they got tired and sat down. Both breathless and panting for air.

"Are you ready?"

"Ready for what?"

"To face my Mother?"

She looked at him.

"Ready then I'll ever be."

He moved closer to her and she laid her head on his chest. They were both lying there when they both felt great pain. Sara let out this little cry of pain. Jay held her close to him.

"You, you can't."

"I have to."

"NO! I won't allow it!"

"I didn't fulfil my duty the first time I will not do it again!"

"I just got you back I will not lose you again!"

Jay stormed out of the room and Sara stared after him. Sailor Uranus was sitting on the couch in the study when she heard yelling. He got up to see what was going on when she almost ran into an angry Jay. She looked at him wide eyed.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing!" he snapped at her and walked away.

She sat down on the couch with a confused look on her face. She heard a little noise and jumped up to see what it was. She entered the secret room and saw all the colorful glass domes glowing and in the middle was Sailor Moon and Sailor Universe.

"What is going on?!"

A hand reached out and grabbed her. She was pulled in and this really bright white light flashed and they were gone. Jay ran into the room just as they disappeared. He sank to his knees and cried out Sara's name. Luna and Artemis ran into the room.

"Serena!" she screamed. "What are you doing!?"

"Where are they?" demanded Artemis.

"They went to fight my Mother."

Luna and Artemis looked at Jay wide-eyed.

"Your, your Mother?"

He looked at her with tears in his eyes. "Yes, my Mother."

"Do they stand a chance?" asked Artemis.

He looked at them.

"There is only one way. That is if Sara goes into the Silver Crystal and merges her crystal with it. Sara and Serena will use up they're energy. But Sara would never let Serena die. She will give up what little energy she has and give it to Serena. Sara will die."

The cats looked at Jay.

*************************************************************

A flash of bright white light and Sailor Moon and Universe were standing in the middle of a snowstorm. Sailor Moon crossed her arms trying to warm her self. They walked on into the unknown. Both knowing they might not survive. But both brave. Both thinking about saving the world. Not caring about the consequences.
