weld to me but mig is quicker!). (Mig allows you to stuff it
up in half the time.....

also picked up one of those cheapo plasma cutters from trade tools.
oh dont they rock. says it will do 12mm but from a house 240vac i find its
ok to about 6mm without getting too slow.
2 to 5mm it AWESOME.. (running out of stuff to cut up...hahaha)


now also ally and s/s mig capable....and trying to coax a tig
over for coffee..then ill trap it and brain wash it...


well...finally trapped an old ac tig with hf sneaking around in
front yard. (a pie warmer)
Emf pilot arc. they werent known for their efficiency but were
known as an extremely reliable and capable work horse.
As for the three phase problem, without pulling the transformer
apart to see if a dual winding is present, I find the output is
comparable to a standard arc welder. about 76vac. even taking into
account the losses for the air gap type transformer in the old
transarc tradesman, a fine single phase ac tig with hf start, now
resides in the shed.
if you find one of these and the spark gap contacters are stuffed
you simply do the neon sign transformer thing or buy the $200-$300 module
available from the bigger welding mobs.
If you had to buy these items second hand, a total of about $500
I paid $300 all up including replacement tig cable and hose,
new o ring for the gun shroud, 6 tungstons of various size
and collars.
for the D.C., steel and stainless side of things, your stick welder
with a dc attachment (which should have a choke) and a neon
sign transformer super imposed on the gun side for the hf start...
and watch your self mucking around with these tranformers
and voltages. THEY BITE HARD!!!
to make your own rectifier pack for this ...really go over board
with the current and high voltage specs of the diodes. the choke
is just a big coil to stop any ac.
****A note on using the hf unit from the emf unit.....
make sure the computers and anything else sensitive are turned off.


And heres a tip, if you find a good size air gap transformer at 1:1
they make fantastic surge protectors.





Trivots anyone? No need for the tea towels on the table to protect
the surface from the burns any more
