DECEMBER 19

  • Nitro begins with a message from Ric Flair welcoming viewers to Monday Nitro. Flair then declared that Starrcade demonstrated that WCW is "back on track." He then booked Goldberg versus Buff Bagwell, for his interference in Goldberg's match at Starrcade. Scott "Big Poppa Pump" Steiner, having defeated "one of the greatest wrestlers of all time" will face an opponent to be named later at WCW Sin, Flair says before a montage of Starrcade airs including Steiner and Goldberg's wins and the Insiders reclamation of the Tag Team Titles.

  • Number one Contender Match for Cruiserweight Title: Shane Helms versus Shannon Moore.
-Shane Helms waits in the ring as Shannon Moore makes his way down to ramp to Three Count's music. They then shake hands before Moore gets Helms in a waist lock but it is reversed into a hurricanrana. Helms retreats from the ring and returns with a side head lock. Several quick roll-ups are traded after wrestling take-downs. Helms then throws Moore over the top rope by his hair. Moore pulls him out before climbing back in himself. He then delivers a knee while he's on the apron and misses a sunset flip to the ring floor. Moore comes back for a hurricanrana on the floor and then both men crawl back into the ring. They climb the turnbuckle while Chavo Guerrero, Jr. looks on, and Helms elbows Moore until hitting a powerbomb. After a near fall, Helms hits a belly to back suplex and another two count. He argues with the referee until Moore slams his head into a turnbuckle as he jumps over the ropes onto the apron. Moore flips over him to hit a standing side kick and a near fall. He then hits a standing leg drop and covers for a near fall before putting Helms onto the turnbuckle. Moore attempts a frankensteiner but is pushed off. Helms sunset flips him for a very near fall and then hits the Vertibreaker (an upside down dual arm lock which drives Moore into the mat) for the pinfall. Guerrero then runs in but Three Count double team him and chase him from the ring and backstage.
Shane Helms defeats Shannon Moore via pinfall.

  • In the locker room, General Rection screams at Cpl. Cajun, while Sgt. A-Wall looks on, for wanting to help Guerrero: "I told you he's no good!"

  • Steiner and Midajah then come to the ring. "Y'know, Ric Flair, you're taking your job as CEO way too personal and I know why. When you were champion, they said you were just average. Me, I'm the genetic freak with the largest arms in the world." He claims that Flair cannot find anyone that will face him and asks him to get Diamond Dallas Page a "sex change so he'll have balls to face me!" Steiner claims Page is "white trash" and should be sent to the Bush Leagues and the trailer park and prays that Flair will name Page as his opponent. The Nature Boy then makes his way to the ramp: "Congratulations on last night, you beat Sid Vicious, you're the man!" He claims that it is his job to make sure Steiner, "the man," stays "the man." Steiner claims Flair is trying to "screw" him but Flair claims that the match at Sin will be a three-way dance. A mini-tournament will take place, culminating in the main event -- the winner of which will be one of Steiner's opponents. He will not name the participants to keep Steiner from running amok. Steiner claims Flair has pissed him off again and mentions Arn Anderson being in the hospital from the last time Flair pissed him off. Flair is unconcerned and walks backstage while Steiner flexes.

  • Another paid announcement from Jimmy Hart airs. He clallenges those that do not like him to face him.

  • Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Bagwell and Lex "the Total Package" Luger about their interference with Dwayne "Sarge" Bruce and Goldberg. Bagwell then claims that WCW has driven him "into the ground" for nine years and so, he has made a tage team with Luger. Luger starts his spiel when Steiner approaches them and asks for their help since "Flair is trying to screw" him. Making a face, Luger explains that Steiner is crazy and he and Bagwell leave to help out.

  • Meng, Kwee Wee and Paisley make their way to the ring. When they arrive, Terry Funk appears on the Nitro Vision where he challenges the "flat foot and bannana nose" Meng to a hardcore match in a cage backstage.

  • Hardcore Title Match: Meng versus Terry Funk.
-Meng races backstage and Funk drops the chain link door that he was ranting behind onto him. Funk then hits him with a trash can but Meng jumps back up and bashes Funk with a chair and a trash can lid. Begging for mercy, Funk gets to his feet before insulting Meng's nose again. Meng hits him with the trash can lid again and the two brawl through the curtain to the ramp area. He continues to beat on Funk with a trash can as they stumble toward the ring area. Meng puts Funk into the ring and then pulls out a table. He pushes the table into the ring and then goes back to get the trash can to knock Funk down from the apron. Funk bashes away at Meng with the trash can as he sets up the table but Meng is unfazed. Meng takes the trash can and hits Funk -- placing him onto the table. He climbs onto the top turnbuckle and comes down onto the table, Funk rolled out of the way. Meng gets to his feet and puts Funk in the Tongan Death Grip but Crowbar runs out and bashes Meng with a monkey wrench. Funk covers Meng for the pinfall and then Crowbar tells Funk that he has abandoned his gimmick to face him at Sin. He wants him to be 100% so he can get his belt back.

Storm battles back and scores a near fall after working over Mysterio's ribs and hitting a backbreaker. He then scores a vertical suplex for another two count. Mysterio rolls out of the ring but Storm follows him. Storm ends up in the railing and connects with a boot before they return to the ring.
