"I am Italian. But none can guess it, when I come to London..."
Italian. For forcing himself to not think too much of his place of origin Jill asked him the reasons he was in the Capital for, and how he could have learnt the language that perfectly.
"I speak English since I was a child, that's why I got a good accent. Regarding why I am here, well I got a job interview this morning.."
"You mean you're gonna work here?"
"It's very likely to happen yes. In about two months, more or less, I should move here."
Jill, totally fond of football like the wide majority of Englishmen, told him he was just going to miss the European Football Championship that June.He said he was hoping highly for England to get back its supremacy, since Brazil wasn't going to be part of the competition.
Football was a passion for them both:the Italian guy confessed himself supporting blindly Milan A.C.
"Do you have Baggio among your players don't you?"
"Sure, we do: pity this year due to healthy problems he hasn't played that many games, cos he's phenomenal in my book."
Roberto Baggio: HER football ido. Jill had learnt from her every small anecdote and pieces of history about him, the names of his numerous brothers and sisters, those of all relatives; he knew about Caldogno, a minuscle town near vicenza being his birthplace, he knew he did marry at merely 21, and that he was proud father of a girl and a boy; he was taught Baggio was fond of Prince and Eagles' music, that he was practicing haunting, and buddhism of Soka-Gakkai. Jill knew about all his scores in all Leagues and with each different team Baggio had played for. Jill knew even Baggio's mantra...
"I've heard that your coach won't bring him here for the games..."
"No he won't and I think he's mistakin there.. but we have still Del Piero and Chiesa and we can do marvels anyway..."
"I don't know them any well.. anyway Gazza's gonna be the tournament leading player. He's not even a player for my team, Arsenal, but I do amaze myself the way he dominates the sphere.. if sober!"
His companion wasn't too convinced about the importance of former Lazio's player's supply:
"He's off heezy, man! He could have been your new George Best, but he wasted so much of his talent into binge of alchool!"
"He did but now he's back for the better and he's gonna kick everyone's asses you'll see!"
"We'll see.. I'd like to meet you again after the championship just to see who were right about him!"
They went on talkin some minutes more, till the foreigner didn't realize his break had prolongued too much:
"It's getting latem, gotta run away: it has been such a great pleasure to have you at my table. You've been so kind in accepting my invitation. I think everyone else would have thought of me I was mad..."
And saying that he offered Jill his hand.
"Oh! but you are indeed.. still, I think you're a cool kind of nutcase. You totally erased my bad temper today. It was a top pleasure for me too! Goodbye and take care!"
Jill shok his hand and got on his way home.
"Italians" he thought then "I wonder if there's one that is normal among them!"
