As an artist, I greatly enjoy painting, cartooning and pen and ink drawing. I enjoy fantasy and things surreal over the commonplace. I am a talented illustrator, and as a cartoonist, my sense of humor is very twisted and is nowhere near commonplace.
As a Martial Artist, I was recently awarded my Fifth Degree (Dan) black belt in Karate. I have a black belt in Tang Soo Do and have also studied, among other things, Kempo. Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing and Arnis, although I most readily identify with the Kempo system. As an instructor, I have always been more concerned with the practical aspects of self-defense, and have chosen to keep a healthy distance from the commercialism and sport aspects that have now taken over and replaced the more traditional fighting arts. I possess a deeply spiritual outlook on martial arts, which I consider to be a sacred part of my own life philosophies.
All of my life I have looked at things through the eyes of a child, and I have learned a great many things along the way. I know, for instance, that love is forever in fiction; rarely happens in real life; and when it does it is something to be treasured. I know that life is too short, and most days are way too long. I know that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear, I know that sometimes in real life, the bad guy wins. I know as a martial artist that the most powerful force in the universe is gentleness. I know that it is more important to be a "great" storyteller, than it is to be merely a "good" writer. I know as an artist its important to develop the skill of "seeing" things correctly, and I also know that above all other things, "Life is a Circle."
