Philosophy

I'm very interested in philosophy and world religions. I have been doing a lot of studying and hope to do a lot more. What makes our world tick and how is it that we are here? These are curious questions. I what to know what the truth is and how we know that. I encourage everyone to ponder this as well and to think things through. I try hard not to accept things on blind faith, or passively absorb what everyone else is doing (the most common way of developing a personal philosophy). But I've realized that study alone cannot give us all of the answers to life's questions. It takes community and the input of other people to help bring us into balance.

Here's a biographical story of the effect of Christ on my life.

Books

I like to read and try to do so consistently. I've read a lot of classics, history, and philosophy. I like Distopias such as "Brave New World", "1984", and "Identity". Roman history is very interesting. Books such as The Illiad by Homer, The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, and Space Trilogy by Lewis top my list. There are many good books that far surppass online papers and movies. Reading is becoming one of those quiet arts that is fading in the modern era.

Some book recommendations and reviews.

Travel

I love to travel and have had the priviledge of not only seeing much of the US but some international adventures as well. I have been to Canada, France, Bermuda, Cambodia, Singapore, and Israel. I was in Germany long enough to get my passport stamped. I recently went out west to Utah and Colorado.

Web Design

I tool around with the website just for fun but not that frequently. I work in HTML and CSS and have experiemented with Javascript and PHP. (I would add a MySQL/PHP backend if my host supported it but have not been motivated enough to change service to a more expensive one). It is a creative hobby. Sort of a futuristic mix of the old arts of sketching and writing. I've been developing since around 1998 and run my unit's website at work.

Movies

I watch tons of movies. I really like epics, movies with lots of imagery, complicated plots, cool techiques, exciting scenes, or admirable characters.

penguins

I like penguins too.
