WHILE I WAIT

The Most Perfect Party Ever!
Saturday night (September 22nd) my best girl friends got together and threw me an incredible baby shower/cocktail party. It was so nice.

The hostesses

They had tons of great Asian cuisine, a gorgeous pink and brown cake and tons of refreshing beverages.

The yummy cake and silly Jim

The room was decorated in pink and brown (Katherine's theme colors) and about 40 of my favorite people came out to celebrate. My parents came in from Fairhope to join in on the fun...

My sweet parents

...They also spent the day helping me organize Katherine's room and make my condo the safest place in the city .

Bob, the new boyfriend, came with bells on to meet my parents, all the others, and drive home all the presents (what a trooper!)

Trooper Bob and I

I got some of the nicest presents I could ever dream of. Some of those outfits are so cute, I'd wear them if they were about 100x bigger! This little girl is going to give her mommy a run for her money in the fashion department!

Party star, Danielle

I just have to say I really appreciate how lucky I am to have such great, great friends. This process has been long, it's been emotional and sometimes frustrating. I couldn't have gotten through without all the encouragement and kindness my friends and family have provided. It's times like this you just don't take for granted who has your back and I am very fortunate.

Fun Michelle

Thanks again Beth, Amy, Debbie P, Debbie B and Kristy for making me feel so loved - you guys are the best friends a girl could ask for. Thanks to Lynn for taking all the pictures. Thanks Mom and Dad for making the drive and working your tails off all weekend.

Mom and a gang of friends

Thanks Bob, for being the very coolest guy I currently know. Thanks everyone else for helping me celebrate this incredibly fantastic time in my life.

"Arthur: Binky gets a sister from China"
From PBS Kids, premiering this Friday, September 7th...

In an upcoming Arthur show, his friend Binky Barnes gets a sister from China. The producers are said to have done their homework and researched the process as well as talked to families to get their input on the show. People who have seen it say it is very well done and they are impressed. I can’t wait to see this one.

"Ni Hao, Kai-Lan"
From Nick Jr, premiering October 22nd...

"Ni Hao, Kai-Lan" is supposed to be a Chinese version of Dora. A play-along, think-along series starring Kai-Lan Chow, a playful, adventurous preschooler who speaks both English and Mandarin. Kai-Lan and her animal friends are guided by her YeYe (grandfather) through their adventures. I hope this series is done well, and I hope Kai-Lan ends up with as much merchandise as Dora.

I guess my days of watching E and MTV are going to be replaced by shows like these!... ahhh Motherhood here I come!

August 7th, 2007... I'm NEXT!!
Last week was an emotional one. We all thought our log in was November 21st, only to find out that our agency had 2 different documents, with conflicting dates, and it was actually the 22nd. The cutoff was the 21st. We sat on pins and needles wondering if we would get our referrals, only to find out we had to wait another month. The good news is that I am next. There is no doubt, our date is the next date. I feel a lot calmer now and can just relax and prepare for motherhood.

July 9th, 2007... Nesting
Well, I really wondered if this would ever happen to me. I think it finally did last weekend. I got new carpet for the baby's room, my room and the hallway. This required me to move everything out of the closets and under the bed. Once I started this, I was an organizing, cleaning, nesting fool. I couldn't stop. I decided to hang a new medicine cabinet (with a power drill!!), install a new toilet seat, paint the bathroom wall, and strip 2 dressers for the baby's room. It was all a lot more fun than I ever thought it would be. I still have to finish the dressers, paint the knobs and put some shelves in my armoire. But, none the less, I officially am nesting.

Quick Definitions
(nest)
  • noun: a kind of gun emplacement
    (example: "A machine-gun nest").
  • noun: furniture pieces made to fit close together.
  • noun: a gang of people (criminals or spies or terrorists) assembled in one locality
    (example: "A nest of thieves").
  • noun: a cozy or secluded retreat.
  • noun: a structure in which animals lay eggs or give birth to their young.
  • verb: inhabit a nest, usually after building
(example: "Birds are nesting outside my window every Spring").

They placed babies through the 14th of November. So I very easily could be next. Ahhhh... must keep nesting... lots to do.

July 2nd, 2007
This about sums it up. I got this from Kristy for my birthday (June 9th) and it couldn't be more true...

My Birthday T-Shirt

I should get ones for my parents that say "No not yet, very soon and don't ask a bunch of questions because it's really complicated."

It's getting close, though... so I better wear this one a few times before I can break out the "World's Greatest Mother" one, you know with the big trophy?... just kidding.
