In his mind, Orion slowly opened his eyes. He looked around in confusion. He called out, “Misty! Oceana! Where are you?” He gasped, “I’m all alone. Hello, is anyone there?”
“I’m here, Orion. Please don’t be afraid.” He heard a comforting voice call to him. “Don’t be afraid of the future or your destiny.”
“Who are you?” He wondered, curiously.
“I’m the dragon that has watched over the ruins since the beginning of time.”
“Oceana, what’s going on here?” He looked down and noticed that he was riding on her back, but their souls were somehow intertwined.
“You’re on the passage to your place of origin. It is where you really belong—with your true love.”
“Oceana, did I die?” He wondered, a little sad and scared.
“No, you’re just too weak to be awake right now. You won the fight, Orion, but I almost lost you to the darkness of Hades. It was injected into your soul by that dragon’s tail. You almost became a servant of Hades and would have died of the dark influence if I hadn’t come to rescue you. I’m taking you personally to the edge of the ruins where you nearly drowned on your venture here.”
“So, this is just a mind illusion and I’m unconscious.”
“Yes, we almost lost you to the darkness, Orion, so be thankful that you’re still alive.”
“I really should be thanking you. You saved my life.” He sighed, holding onto the pendant around his neck, “If I come back, will we still be friends?”
“Of course, Orion, as you knew my true name, we will always be friends.”
“There’s something I still don’t understand. If I was originally a faun or a centaur, how’d I become a merman?”
“Actually, when Zeus was experimenting with the different forms that you should take, you would have been the most compatible with the form you had recently possessed. He made you human so you’d be just as great as Jonas, but your spirit’s true destiny is to be a merman. Your destiny does lie here, but you must be with Penelope.” Her eyes lit up, ”Do you remember when your missing her lured Dragoonas to you?”
“Yes.” He held onto the pendant, relieved that the dark energy was taken out of Dragoonas’s scale to protect him from the darkness.
“If you were away from her for a while longer than this, you’d already be dead.”
He gasped, holding onto his throat in fear. “And I died by her hooves in my past, so I’m not destined to die alone.” He shivered and held onto himself so he wouldn’t lose himself even more. “What’s… what’s going on? I can’t…”
“Orion, the transition back to a normal life will not be smooth for you so be prepared for difficult times to come for the next few days.”
He sighed, putting a hand to his forehead, “We’re close, but that’s why I feel so weak. I can’t see too well...”
“Hold on to me, we’re almost there.”
“I see a bright light,” he shut his eyes to embrace what’s to come.
“Remember Orion, I love you and will always be watching over you. Good luck.”
