HOW TO GET TO THE ISLAND OF TIREE

BY AIR

The quickest and most scenic way to travel to Tiree is by air. Light aircraft flights are available from Glasgow most days.
For more information, visit the British Airways online timetable for the latest details.

The planes land on the Island's airstrip at The Reef. More information is available on Tiree Airport from the
Highlands & Islands Airport Website.

BY FERRY

Another enjoyable although longer way to travel is by ferry. During the summer, a ferry service is available from Oban to Coll and Tiree (Monday - Saturday with the exclusion of Thursday). Most of the crossings are made via the Island of Coll (journey time from Oban to Coll is approximately two and three quarter hours and a further one hour from Coll to Tiree), except on Fridays when the ferry sails directly from Oban to Tiree. The journey time is approximately three and a half hours. During the winter, timetables may be subject to change and fewer sailings may be available.

The MV Clansman (above left) operates on the Oban - Coll - Tiree and Oban - Lochboisdale routes.

Facilities : observation lounge, quiet area, lift for the disabled, shop, children's play area, full meals, light snacks, bar.

She has a top speed of 16.5 knots, carries 100 cars and 634 passengers.

The MV Lord of the Isles (above right) operates on the Mallaig - Armadale and Mallaig -Castlebay/Lochboisdale routes, but sometimes alternates with the MV Clansman.

Facilities : lounge, cabins, toilets, lift for the disabled, full meals, light snacks, bar and packed lunches.

The Lord of the Isles was built at Port Glasgow by Appledore Ferguson in 1989. Her length is 84.6m and breadth is 15.8m. She has a top speed of 16 knots, carries 56 cars and 506 passengers.

If you're planning on bringing your bike, you may be interested to know that bikes can be carried on the ferry. This service costs approximately two pounds each way.
