Background story

 

March 2010 marked the end to the First Space War, and the New United Government was formed. Earth's atmosphere was purified, and using the technology from Protoculture, mass cloning of animals and plants was carried out to rebuild the the heavily damaged ecosystem on Earth.

While humankind escaped from extinction, there was still fear that another attack by the Bodol fleet could exterminate life on Earth.

In 2011, plans of close-range space colonization were drafted to solve the problems of population boom and resource shortages. In addition, super-long-range space colonization was to be carried out concurrently in order to preserve the human species and its culture.

In 2012 the second Macross class space ship, Megaroad 01, was launched as part of the first super-long-range colonization fleet.

Two years later, construction of the third Macross class ship, Megaroad 02, was completed. Megaroad 02 was assigned as the flag ship to the second super-long-range space colonzation fleet.

Having been exposed to Earth's culture, the consciousness among the Zentradi gradually strengthened. Due to resource shortages and an Earth-supremacy principle, micronization of the Zentradi became semi-compulsory. At the same time,mass media revealed that the Zentradi-to-human ratio on the colonization fleets was somewhat high. These all led to an increasing anti-earth atmosphere...

The year is 2014. The player takes the role of Yuu Hiyama, a fresh valkyrie pilot on board of Megaroad 02, which is now in its final phase of testing before embarking on the colonization journey. Meanwhile, an unidentified force that uses Zentradi technologies attacks a monitoring station on the lunar orbit. Megaroad 02 takes off from its underground-base on Moon and goes to the station's rescue.
