Explanation
Part of the general Central American unrest, a legacy of the
original colonization by which a feudal, quasi-apartheid social
division occurred between the original inhabitants and their
descendants and the Hispanic colonizers and their descendants.
Guerrillas demand land reform and an end to the division of land
use between landless peasants and local aristocracy and foreign
corporations. But as successive US govewrnments have considered this to be Communism it
probably won't happen.
