“You dirty bastards!” - Ash
In 1982 the world was introduced to a series of movies that started off serious and ended off a complete spoof. The Evil Dead is the story of a character called Ash, who has perhaps the worst luck of any person in any movie ever. The overall story of the three movies is this : Ash and four friends go to stay at a shack in the middle of some Tennessee woodlands and while there, Ash and his friend Scott find The Book of The Dead and a special dagger (both seen in Friday the 13th Part 9, JGTH).
Also with these items in the basement is a tape recorder, and upon playing it, they accidentally unleash a spell which releases Candarian demons which haunt the woodland. One of the girls goes out side and is raped by some trees(?) and suddenly she is possessed with the spirit of a Candarian demon, which gives the appearance of looking like a zombie. The possessed girl is locked in the basement and they think they are safe... until another is attacked and becomes one of the Evil Dead. Eventually, all but Ash are possessed by the Evil Dead including his girlfriend, who’s head he cuts off with a shovel, and he desperately burns the Book of The Dead in a bid to stop them, and this works - hands come from the ground and get the possessed bodies (Also in Friday the 13th Part 9). Ash buries the bodies and he presumes he is safe, when an evil spirit attacks him just as day is breaking, and he is half possessed. Still trapped at the shack, that night, he looks from the window and sees his dead girlfriend rise from the grave and he head somehow arrives in his lap and bites his hand, infecting it, and he runs to the tool shed, puts the head in a vice and chain-saws it up.
Now believing he is safe he returns to the shack and finds that his infected hand wants to kill him - it repeatedly attacks him by smashing plates over his head, but he chops it off at the wrist. Finally he has got rid of the Evil Dead. Unfortunately on the way to the shack is a couple of archaeologists who have some more pages from the book of the dead, and when they arrive, they think that Ash has killed the others and so they lock him in the basement where a possessed witch claws her way from the floor and attacks him. Upon seeing this, his captors release him, and think they have the evil under control in the basement, until they get infected and are killed by Ash, who is fitted with a chain saw where his hand was. They position themselves and then read a passage from the Book of The Dead that will make the Evil take shape - so hopefully Ash could kill it, and he successfully chain saws it’s face up, but the remaining archaeologist is stabbed by Ash’s rogue hand. A final passage is read from the book to finally rid the world of the evil, and a vortex appears which sucks up the evil - but doesn’t stop there - it also sucks up Ash - and deposits him in Medieval England. Ash finds himself being attacked by a flying Candarian Demon, but he luckily has his shotgun, and blows it’s head off. It was not only ash who came through the vortex though - his car, a few trees and an oven had followed him. The Medieval warriors capture him, believing him to be on the king’s rival’s side. Ash proves his worth though. He is forced to fight in a special pit against various captured Candarian demon, but kills them with his shotgun and chain saw that is attached to his wrist. After gaining their awe, they release him, and he is sent on a quest to get an item that would send him back to his own time - The Book of The Dead, which is hidden in a far off graveyard. On his journey, he is attacked by miniture versions of himself, and one jumps in his mouth, but his attempt to kill it by drinking a kettle of hot water fails, and he grows a ‘clone’ from his shoulder. Within seconds, the Evil Ash is fully grown and tries attacking him, but Ash shoots him in the face, saws him up and buries him. He finally retrieves the book, but unfortunately says the wrong spell and all of the dead rise from the grave, lead by Evil Ash, whose bottom jaw has curiously grown quite a lot by this time. Ash gets back to the castle, and tells them of the approaching army of darkness - an army of zombies. With Ash’s future knowledge of alchemy and things (and a little help from some books he has in his car boot), he helps devise a plan which ultimately makes them win, and the Castle’s wizard gives Ash a potion that will make him sleep until his own time... Unfortunately, he has too much and awakes in the future, shortly after some event that has rendered the cities destroyed, and not a living person in site...

- In Nightmare On Elm Street, Nancy can be seen watching The Evil Dead whilst trying to stay awake.

- There will be no more Evil Dead movies.
- The discrepancies between what actually happens in The Evil Dead, and what is shown as the back story at the beginning of Evil Dead 2 are because of the copyright problems.
