The Evil Dead is one of my favourite horror movies, and I regret putting off watching it for so long, but now I have, I am a great fan. The basic story is that a group of 5 students go to stay in an empty shack in the middle of a forest, near a now famous rickety old bridge. As the students search the shack, they discover The Book of the Dead and a special dagger (both seen in Jason goes to hell) which lead to them accidentally awaking the evil that lurks within the woods, which in turn, possesses four of them to the horror of hero, Ash. Ash kills all three by burning the book, but at the end, he is attacked by the last of the evil. The movie is very atmospheric, has a good story and a good level of gore. Although the effects look cheap, you must remember that it was made in 1982 and beats the living dead series hands down. If, like me, you are a fan of most horrors, but are unsure about zombie movies, watch this and you will understand the beauty of it.
"The Evil Dead is a visual and aural attack on the senses which requires a strong stomach and a healthy sense of humour!"
"Whilst holidaying in the Tennessee woodlands, five innocent teenagers unwittingly unleash the spirit of the Evil Dead. One by one the teenagers fall victim to the frenzied, flesh-eating monsters, amidst a stunning display of special effects."
"A black rainbow of horror" - Stephen King
"I loved every disgusting minute!" - NME
