Witches' Bottles and Charms

We can use a variety of charms, talismans, amulets, etc. for specific purposes. One form of this is the Witches Bottle. A Witches' Bottle or charm is a jar or bottle (or in the case of a charm a pouch,)filled with various items (such as herbs, representations, or a myriad of other effects.) The bottle can then be, according to the purpose (and size,) worn, buried, kept on a table, headboard, shelf, on an altar, or, well, you get the idea... A charm is most often carried or worn. Here, I have given a few simple Bottle and Charm spells.

Each bottle or charm must be cleansed, consecrated, and empowered (see here.) Each bottle or charm has a small blessing that should be said in the cleansing, consecrating, and empowering ritual right after it is empowered.

Protection Bottle or Charm

For this bottle, you will need:

• One medium-sized bottle or jar
• Altar Pentacle
• Pieces of broken glass
• Anything sharp (nails, thorns, pins, etc.)
• Herbs (choose three or four of these:)
  • asafoetida, basil, cinquefoil, garlic, hyssop, motherwort, nettles, rosemary, vervain.
• Black cord or embroidery floss
• Piece of parchment, if possible. (Or a piece of paper soaked in tea and dried )
• India ink (available at office supply stores. If this is impossible, black pen is acceptable.)

Ground and Center

Place the bottle or jar on the pentacle. After each ingredient has been placed in the jar, seal it. Next, write the following on the parchment with the India ink:

Be ever protected,
Be ever safe.
My light shines bright
Forever standing guard.
Blessed Be.

Attach the parchment to the cord and then tie the cord to the jar or bottle.

Perform a cleansing, consecrating, and empowering ritual for the entire jar. You needn't cast the circle or call quarters again, (you already did that!) but you may wish to ground and center again. After you have empowered it, repeat the enscription above.

When you are finished put the jar in a place where it will protect the thing it was meant to protect. If this jar was created to protect a home or outdoor space, you may wish to bury the jar somewhere outside.

Dream Bottle

Items needed:

• A small to medium bottle or jar
• Altar Pentacle
• A small lock and key (if you have them.)
• Herbs (choose three of these:)
  • Ash leaves, lavender, mugwort, valerian, vervain.
• Silver or white cord or embroidery floss
• Piece of parchment (or piece of paper soaked in tea and then dried.)
• India ink (available at office supply stores. If this is impossible, black pen is acceptable)

Ground and Center

Place the bottle or jar on the pentacle. One by one, add the effects and herbs. After all has been placed in the bottle or jar, seal it and write on the parchment:

I'll Guard and protect you,
While you sleep,
Guide and keep,
Guide and keep,
Dreams of truth,
Dreams to foresee,
Come to you --
Blessed Be.

Attach the parchment to the cord and tie the cord to the bottle or jar.

Perform the cleansing, consecrating, and empowering ritual on the whole bottle or jar. You needn't cast the circle or call the quarters again, but you may wish to re-ground and center. After you have performed the ritual, read the above enscription to affirm the bottle's purpose.

This bottle may be put on your headboard, on a nightstand, or anywhere nearby where you sleep. Before you sleep, ask Aisling, bright Lady dreamweaver, to aid you in your slumber.
