In the thick of things: predictions for the big games in week six
Jason DeCorsi - Columnist

Richt takes his hyped Bulldogs to Tuscaloosa for an SEC battle.

After getting through those hated test weeks, I'm back to lend my unconventional knowledge to the college football prediction world.  I did pretty decent in my first column and hopefully I'll continue the trend this week.

SEC conference play is finally in full swing and we've got some great match-ups this week.  The headliner has to be Georgia traveling to Tuscaloosa to face the Crimson Tide.  There are also great games to be played between Arkansas and Tennessee, Florida and Ole Miss, and Mississippi State and South Carolina.

There are also several interesting games elsewhere throughout the country.  Here's a look at how I believe the games will end up in a really exciting week in college football.

Georgia at Alabama

After the Tide's great performance at Arkansas last week, Alabama has been getting national attention and hinting towards a great season.  Georgia comes into town for its first real test in the SEC this year.  Former Auburn coach Pat Dye has said that the Bulldogs simply "aren't man enough" to beat the Tide.

Will Georgia remain everyone's favorite sleeper in the SEC?  Or will ole Bama roll once again?  I think Alabama's got a little too much going to drop this one, but it'll be close.  Alabama 22, Georgia 17

Arkansas at Tennessee

Two teams who desperately need a confidence boost face off in Knoxville this week.  After Florida knocked out the Vols two weeks ago, Tennessee apparently took a while to get up off the mat and struggled in the first half against lowly Rutgers.  Arkansas, bringing in inflated stats against lousy competition, looked vastly overmatched against a rejuvenated Alabama team last week.

So one team's got to be a man and show up on Saturday.  Who's it going to be?  History points toward Tennessee.  Additionally, the game is being played in Big Orange country.  Gotta pick the Vols in this one.  Tennessee 34, Arkansas 13

Florida at Ole Miss

A few people have hyped this game as a duel between the top two quarterbacks in the SEC.  While that could-maybe-possibly be true, Eli Manning and David Cutcliffe simply don't have the manpower to beat the Gators, even in Oxford.  This one could get ugly unless Florida turns the ball over repeatedly.  Florida 47, Ole Miss 17

Texas Tech at Texas A&M

Texas Tech and Texas A&M?  Why am I talking about this game?  It's simple.  Last year's win by the Red Raiders in Lubbock resulted in a brawl between opposing fans.  Texas A&M responded by bashing Tech and their program in the Aggies' 2002 media guide.  This one's gonna see blood, folks.  Bank on it.  Texas Tech 20, Texas A&M 12

Kansas State at Colorado

After a big home win against USC, the Wildcats are determined to prove that they're once again legit.  They hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Boulder to take on the Buffs.

This is a tough game to pick.  Kansas State is clearly the hotter team, but Colorado has had past success against the Cats and are playing at home.  I could be biased towards K State, though.  Something about seeing Gary Barnett looking befuddled on the sidelines just tickles me to the core.  Kansas State 23, Colorado 10

Penn State at Wisconsin

You gotta love it.  A classic Big Ten clash for national prominence.  The Badgers are looking to go 6-0 after a disappointing 5-7 season in 2001.  Penn State will use it's prolific offensive arsenal to bounce back after a tough loss to Iowa.

Although Wisconsin is 5-0, I'm just not impressed yet.  PSU, however, has beaten down Nebraska, manhandled Louisiana Tech and erased a 23-point deficit to force Iowa to overtime.  I like Joe Pa and the boys in this one.  Penn State 30, Wisconsin 21

In other games...USC beats over-rated Washington State 24-20...Mississippi State somehow beats Holtz and the Gamecocks in the SEC Disappointment Bowl 27-17...Washington stomps on Cal 34-14...Oregon rolls at Arizona 35-20...Notre Dame wins over hapless Stanford 24-7
