LSU completely dominates an inferior UL-Lafayette team, 48-0

Matt Mauck went 8-for-19 for 138 yards and three touchdown passes in the romp over the Cajuns.

The 19th-ranked LSU Tigers completely dominated an overwhelmed ULL Ragin' Cajun team Saturday night in Tiger Stadium with a 48-0 Homecoming win.

The Tiger offense scored at will throughout the first half, collecting 41 points with three running and three passing touchdowns.

LSU's defense was the most dominating unit on Saturday night.  The Tiger D held the Cajuns to a meager 70 yards of total offense.  At halftime, the Cajuns had twenty-seven total yards on thirty plays.

The Tigers came storming out of the gate.  After the defense forced a three-and-out on the opening drive, Domanick Davis returned a ULL punt 41 yards to the Cajun 19-yardline.  It would be the only time the Cajuns would punt towards Davis the entire night.  The LSU offense took three plays to score, when Matt Mauck found Devery Henderson in the corner of the endzone for a 19-yard touchdown strike.

After another three-and-out forced by the Tiger defense, Mauck and company took six plays to go fifty-four yards and score again.  Mauck found Michael Clayton on a crossing route for a 36-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0 midway through the first quarter.

LSU scored once again in the first quarter when Mauck found Clayton in the endzone for the second time.  The result was a 4-yard touchdown pass that capped a six play, sixty yard drive by the Tigers.

After the teams traded fumbles on successive plays, LSU headed for its fourth score near the end of the first quarter.  Although they failed to punch it in before the opening quarter ran out, Domanick Davis pounded the ball in from one yard out to give the Tigers a 27-0 advantage seconds into the second quarter.

Davis, along with Joseph Addai, would add later Tiger rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Tigers an absurd 41-0 lead at the break.  Coming out of halftime, Coach Saban pulled the vast majority of the starters and tried to get valuable playing time for younger players.

The Tiger backups on offense managed to move the ball sporadically in the second half and notched a score when Joseph Addai took an option pick from Marcus Randall 34 yards into the north endzone.  It would be the only score of the second half as LSU won 48-0.

The Tiger defense continued to impress despite taking out its starters in the third quarter.  LSU held ULL to 70 total yards and collected seven sacks and three turnovers.

LSU returns to action Saturday, October 12 in Gainesville, FL to take on Ron Zook and the Florida Gators.
