More removal with some progress!

May 08 and November 09.
Slowly but surely, a year and a half pause on progress. What was I thinking?

Next... 2010 Progress, just a little

May 2008

A little more removal and the installation begins.

Cory and I removed the left side fenderwells and suspension.

Here we have removed all OEM suspension components.

I also removed the drivers floorpan to replace it with fresh metal.
This also allows me to rust proof the inside of the OEM frame rail.
May 2008 brought much progress. After being slowed by the rusted drivers floorpan. I began replacing the passenger frame rail. This was a huge boost in motivation, as it has been some time since forward progress has taken place.

I received the new TCI Custom IFS suspension kit and installing the crossmember for that kit is planned as the next step of the project. I ordered the optional 11" Wilwood calipers with this kit and look forward to seeing them peer through the 17" COY's wheels I have waiting for them.

I welded in the new passenger inner and outter frame rail.
3M rubber undercoating was applied before installing the outter rail.

Almost ready for the new TCI Custom IFS crossmember to be installed.
After this picture, I welded on the outter frame rail on the passenger side.

November 2009

Novemeber 14, 2009

After a windy start the day calmed down and I was able to make a bit of progress on the Mustang.
I went to Lowe's today, while out buying oil, to buy a new cord for my Generator and left instead with a new Porter-Cable angle grinder and a Dewalt wire wheel. I started to grab another Dewalt grinder, but the Porter-Cable is a nicer piece, has a trigger, cost less ($39.97) and they are both from China anyway. Now I have two grinders and can use one for... um, grinding and the other with the brush for rust removal while keeping as much metal as possible.

With my new toy, I had an itch to use it.

For the first time in about a year and a half, I went back to work on the all but forgotten Mustang.

I came home, after a burger from PD-Quix, and used the Porter-Cable with brush to remove rust from the drivers frame rail and then grabbed the 'ol Dewalt, ground off the lip on the passenger frame rail (the new one) and welded up the seam. I then ground the weld smooth and applied a coat of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss to protect it until the next step... Start installing the TCI IFS kit.
This stuff takes time, but it's good to be moving forward after removing parts and going backwards for so long.

I recently had a 20x18 carport installed to keep the rain off of her until the much needed shop can be afforded. The carport also will help block the sun in the summer months, I hope to keep this renewed interest and at least complete the front IFS install by this time 2010.
