Head Coach -- John Sonderegger:

This is Coach Sonderegger's third year with the Lancer program. He brings a wealth of wrestling knowledge to Shawnee Mission East. He has coached a number of club and youth teams in Kansas City and St. Louis. He continues to travel to coaching clinics throughout the USA. As a wrestler, Sonderegger was the first Big Eight Conference Champion in 50 years of wrestling at the University of Missouri. He was twice a Collegiate All-American, placing fourth in the NCAA Division I Tournament at 150 pounds. Sonderegger was voted the Outstanding Wrestler in the Big Eight Conference during his senior campaign and continues to hold the single season win record at Mizzou.

Assistant Coach -- Miles Martin:

This is Coach Martin's second year as a Shawnee Mission East Wrestling Coach. Miles is a former prep school heavyweight champ from Colorado. His recent coaching experience was with the successful Turner program. Coach Martin will again head the Junior Varsity squad this season. In addition to wrestling, Coach Martin coaches football and teaches advanced-level science classes at SME.

Assistant Coach -- Chip Ufford:

This is Coach Ufford's fourth year as a Wrestling Coach. In the mid 90's when he was going to college, Chip served as an assistant coach at SME. This is his first year back at SME after finishing college and grad school. Chip is a former prep school wrestler from Paola High School where he was a State Qualifier. He has an Undergraduate Degree from Mid-America Nazarene University in Physical Education and a Masters Degree from the University of Kansas in Sports Administration. Chip is an Assistant Football Coach and is a Strength Teacher for SME. Chip recently married Ms. Karen Burnett.

Assistant Coach -- Kevin Ecker:

This is Coach Ecker's first year as a Wrestling Coach. Kevin graduated from Shawnee Mission East in 2003. Kevin wrestled for three years at East. In his Junior Year, Kevin placed 5th at State and in his Senior year, he was the Sunflower League Champion and took Second at State. Kevin is presently attending Johnson County Community College.
