The Armour of God

Part VII : Our Defensive Armour

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints [Eph. 6:16–18].”

In the previous lessons we have talked about our offensive armour. This armour included; the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, preparation of Gospel of peace on our feet, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation. Now we are going to talk about the two pieces of defensive armour that the Bible mentions. These two are:

1. ____________________________________
2. ____________________________________
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12)

The Word of God is a powerful tool or weapon to use against Satan. The enemy would be defeated when a soldier would pierce him with the sword. That is what we must do with the Bible. We must use it to pierce the devil. One way this can be done is to constantly study your Bible and remind your self of the truths found in it. Jesus caused satan to flee when He quoted Old Testament scripture to him. Everytime the devil would try to tempt Jesus, Jesus would come back with a scripture. Satan cannot stand the Sword of the Spirit.

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints [Eph. 6:16–18].”

The second weapon is PRAYER. Prayer joined with the Sword of the Spirit can be very dangerous for Satan. Praying with boldness before the throne of God can cause the devil to flee. Praying everyday helps us get on tract with the Lord and the Lord keeps the evil away when we ask him to.

The reason I chose to put these two weapons together is because they are the only defensive armour that is told about in the Bible. Why is that?

The reason is simple, because we are not to try to defeat the enemy by our own strength but by the power and strength that comes from the Lord when we read our Bibles (sword of the Spirit) and when we pray.

What happens when a person prays?

A soldier must be prepared for battle at any moment, so must we as Christians. As Christians it is vital to guard our lives and testimonies for God’s glory. The devil uses many things as we have seen to mess us up. But it all comes down to two things that we can do to keep our lives on tract. Study the Word of God and hide it in our hearts and Pray everyday that God will protect you from the evil one. Those are our defensive weapons and we must use them if we are going to win this battle!
