The Armour of God
Part VI : The Helmet
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” Ephesians 6:17
The helmet of the soldier was to protect their brain from injury. The enemy could not hurt a soldier’s head while his helmet was on. This is a significant comparison to today’s Christian.
Today, in the world, there are many things that the devil will use to destroy our minds. Some of these things can be used for good, but generally are not. List some of these things as we name them…..

How does the devil use those things to destroy our minds?

With that in mind let’s think about this Helmet of Salvation. If we have our helmets of salvation in place, the devil’s darts of wickedness can not ruin our minds. Thoughts that are placed there by t.v. programs, radio, music, and internet that are inappropriate are easily put into our minds when we watch or listen to the wrong things. Hollywood does not care about your mind as a Christian. They care about money and how much they can make off of unsuspecting young people like you. The devil knows this and will lure you in by showing you something that looks enticing to this flesh. Looks harmless but when you actually get down to the main point of the song, movie, or internet sites you can really mess up your mind.
When your mind is constantly on things that Christians have no business having their minds on the devil comes roaring in to push you further away from the Father.
Now there are some good things about that which we named. What are some of those good things?

Ok so now you ask me how do we keep from getting into those bad things and messing up our minds?
1. Before you watch t.v., listen to music, or look at something on the internet, pray about it first. The Lord can help you to determine whether or not what you are about to do will glorify Him.
2. While you are watching t.v., listening to music, or looking at something on the internet, if something comes up that you KNOW is inappropriate…TURN IT OFF!!! The devil will use pop-up ads on the internet to entice young people to bad stuff, he will use commercials on the t.v. and radio to entice young people and Christians of all ages for the matter to buy things that they have no business doing. The devil knows the weaknesses.
3. Stay in God’s Word and keep those things in your heart. Yes once again God’s Word comes into play. When we have God’s Word in our hearts and minds we won’t have room for the devil’s temptations.
4. Keep yourself busy with things that God would be glorified with. Name some of these things

The Helmet of Salvation is not only for helping our minds to stay pure but to guards against the devils antics for doubt. If you are busy with the things of the Lord the devil won’t be able to convince you that you are not saved. Take him back to the place where you got saved. He’ll go away!
So what do you do if those things have already crept into your life? Confess them before God and don’t let the devil convince you that He won’t forgive you. He forgave you of your sins when you got saved….He’ll forgive again and again. When you do ask for forgiveness do not allow the devil to tempt you anymore.
PUT YOUR HELMET ON AND GO FORWARD SOLDIER!!
