Experiencing the Italeri #790

The biggest gripes I have about this model are that the cab is in 6 pieces and the tires are hard plastic.
Having the cab in so many pieces was probably so you could take the top off to view the interior un-obstructed but the line it leaves up top by the clearance lights is almost un-bearable.

I think it would have been better to have the roof go all the way to the windshield posts instead of stopping just short. You'd still be able to take the top off for viewing and the roof wouldn't have the line across it.

There are a few engineering flaws on this model that will give you headaches.

1st The air intake that goes across the engine compartment is made for more than one model. On this model you have to cut 2 of the intake tubes to fit.

2nd The exhaust stacks were shorter than the alignment holes on the cab. I finally cut off the bottom tab to get this to work.

3rd There isn't a steering shaft from the cab to the steering box on the parts tree even though there is a hole in the floor and a slot on the steering box to add one. I made one from scratch.

After the break from modeling I was reminded how important it was to scrape the glueing points off of chrome parts. CHROME PLATING HATES GLUE ;^)

Make sure when you build this kit that you build the cab and sleeper squarely. It's tough to do since they're in so many pieces. I built the cab and it looked straight but after it had set a day or 2 I test fitted it on the chassis and it was crooked. Luckily I didn't use alot of glue and it came apart easily. I suggest you test fit the cab on the chassis immediatly after gluing and let it dry on the chassis. Same goes for the sleeper berth.

Well that's it for this kit. Hope some of this helps you buid yours.
