Apollo


Apollo was the greek god of music, light, and truth. He was the son of Leto and Zeus and the brother of Artemis and he was born on the island of Delos. He was one of the twelve olympians. His oracle was in Delphi and He was often called "the most greek of all the gods". Apollo was also the master musician, the archer god, and the healer. He was known to be the farthest shooting god and the one that taught man how to heal. He played the lyre and carried the silver bow. He is in the myth Hyacinth, and his oracle is important in many others.


Ares


Ares was the god and symbol of war. He was the son of Zeus and Hera and the brother of Eris. Ares too, was also an Olympian. The goddess of war, Enyo, walked beside Ares. Other than these accounts, Ares figures little into greek mythology.

Artemis


Artemis was the goddes of hunting. Artemis was the twin of Apollo and her parents are Zeus and Leto.She is also also called the lady of the wild things. Some say she is the protecter of the youth.

Athena


Athena was the goddess of wisdom. Something stange about her is she came out of the head of Zeus. She is very warlike and carries Zeus's aegis and his tunderbolt.

Atlas


Atlas was a Titan. In the war between Zeus and Chronos, Atlas was on Chronos's side and since they lost, Zeus punished them. Atlas was punished by having to bear the world on his shoulders.

Cronos


Chronos was for a while, the ruler of all of the gods and goddesses. He was the son of Uranus and Gaea, the brother of Rhea, Coeus, Phoebe, and Ocean, and the father of Hestia, Pluto, Poseidon, Zeus, Hera, and Demeter. Cronos was only ruler for a time because of his sixth child, Zeus, who stabbed him and over threw him. He had swallowed his 5 other children because he was told of his overthrowment early. But Rhea gave birth to Zeus on the faraway island of Crete, where Cronos's view was obstructed. Rhea then left Zeus to the care of foresters and gave Cronos a rock in place of a child. The event which becomes of Hercules protectment is the war between Zeus and Cronos.

Demeter


Demeter was the goddess of corn, grain, and harvest. She is the daughter of Chronos and Rhea. She is the mother of Persephone. Along with Dionysus, Demeter was a supreme deitiy of the earth and of great importance in greek mythology.

Dionysus


Dionysus was the god of wine. He was the son of Semele and Zeus. He created wine and spread the art of tending grapes. Dionysus has two sides. He can bring joy and devine ecstasy. Or he could make a man go mad.

Epimetheus


Epimetheus was the giver of gifts to the animals. Unlike Prometheus, his name meant after thought so he thought about everything he did after he did it.

Hades


Hades was the god and ruler of the uderworld. He was the brother of Zeus. Even though he ruled the underworld, he ws not dead. His wife was Persephone, which who he kidnapped. He had an invisible cap with him all the time.

Helios


Helios was the god of the sun. He was the son of the Titan, Hyperion, who was the sun god before Helios took over.

Hephaestus


Hephaestus was the god of fire. He is the son of Zeus and Hera. Of all the beautiful gods and goddesses, Hephaestus was said to be the only one who was ugly and lame.

Hera


Hera was the sister of Zeus. She also married him later. She was the goddess and protecter of marrige. Hera always was jealous when Zeus fell in love with another girl so she always punished that girl.

Hercules


Hercules, also known as Heraclęs, was the son of Zeus and Alcmene. He was a very strong man. He was half god and half human. Hera was very jealous when she heard that Hercules was born. So she sent two serpents to kill him and his twin brother, Iphiclęs. Hercules strangled the two serpents with both hands which showed he was no ordinary child.

Hermes


Hermes is the the messenger of the gods but mainly to Zeus. He is the son Zeus and Maia. Hermes wore winged sandels. Of all the gods, Hermes was the best robber of anything.

Hestia


Hestia was a virgin goddess. She was a goddess of hearth and the symbol of home. She was the sister of Zeus.

Hyperion


Hyperion was the Titan of light. He was also the early sun god before Helios. He was the son of Uranus adn Gaea. He married his, Theia. Their childern, Helios(sun god), Selene(moon god), and Eos(mother of the four winds).

Persephone


Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Hades kidnapped her and made her queen of the underworld. She stays in the underworld for 1/3 of the year and stays 2/3 of the year with Demeter.

Poseidon


Poseidon was the god and ruler of the sea. He was Zeus's brother. His wife was Amphitrite. Poseidon was important to man because he gave them the horse.

Prometheus


Prometheus was a Titian. He was also the person who stole the fire from the gods and gave it to man. Unlike Epimetheus, his name meant forethought. Prometheus was wiser than most of the gods in Olympus.

Zeus


Zeus was the god of all gods and goddesses and the main Olympian. He was the son of Cronos and Rhea and the brother of Hestia, Pluto, Poseidon, Hera, and Demeter. His children were Athena, Persephone, Ares, Hebe, Hephaestus, Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Aphrodite (usually said to be born of sea foam), Hercules, Epaphus, Perseus, Aeacus, Helen, Pollux, Rhadamanthus, and Tantalus. Zeus is represented as falling in love with one woman after another and doing anything to hide it from his wife, Hera. Zeus became who he was by throwing his father off the throne in the war between Zeus and Cronos.
