Books on eating disorders
At Amazon.com, you can find literally hundreds of other titles. These are just the books out there that I have read (), am in the process of reading (*), or books that other eating disorder patients I've met have said helped them. Some books are of general interest, others are more specific to one or more individual disorders. Please use the submissions page if you have any other book recommendations!
Unfortunately, there are no books specifically about ED-NOS out there that I know of, although they do sometimes refer to "other eating disorders." It might be helpful to read books about the "specified" eating disorder which your own "not specified" one most closely resembles.
Eating disorders in general
Desperately Seeking Self ...A workbook for people with eating disorders, great for getting at the underlying issues!
Life Inside the "Thin" Cage A wonderful book which specifically addresses Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (ED-NOS)
Gaining: The Truth About Life After Eating Disorders by Aimee Liu
Women Afraid to Eat...About breaking free in today's weight-obsessed world
Hunger Pains...About dieting and self-concept for women... including eating disorders
Reviving Ophelia...About the plethora of issues that teens deal with, including eating disorders
Anorexia Nervosa
Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia...A look at the dark side of eating disorders. Warning: depending how you read this, it will either completely discourage you from continuing ED behaviors, or it might just be a really bad trigger
The Best Little Girl in the World...Fiction, by Steve Levenkron, an author I have "issues" with. Kessa is an extreme case, and the ending isn't very realistic. (The story continues in the sequel, Kessa, but that's another book that's constantly out of print.)
Anorexia Nervosa: A Guide to Recovery...Great read for the sufferer and the family
Good Enough: When Losing is Winning...Another memoir type book
Dying to Be Thin
Inner Hunger
Bulimia Nervosa
Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia...A look at the dark side of eating disorders. Warning: depending how you read this, it will either completely discourage you from continuing ED behaviors, or it might just be a really bad trigger
Dying to Be Thin
Inner Hunger
Bulimia: A Guide to Recovery
Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating: A Guide to Recovery...Not the same book as above. They really need to get more creative with their titles
Angel Mommy: The Story of a Bulimic Mother
Sensing the Self
Client Workbook: A cognitive behavioral program for bulimia and binge eating
Binge eating disorder and Compulsive Overeating
Client Workbook: A cognitive behavioral program for bulimia and binge eating
