Terran is the race that most Brood Wars players hates to play. This is because in the beginning, the Terrans only have marines, which are weak and easy to kill. In the early-midgame, the Terrans have detection problems, and can have a hard time to expand until the science vessel is made. Although all these things make the Terran sound like a weak race, it has its advantages.

First, the Terrans have firebats. In the beginning of the game, firebats are the most useful due to the splash damage, 1 armor, and 50 hit points. When they are backed up by medics, they can roast zealots and zerglings. If you expect your opponent to climb the tech tree rather than rushing, you can always have a dozen of infantry of marines, firebats and medics.

As you build up and reach more advanced technology, the seige tanks are the core to the Terrans. Protoss players and Zerg players will always try to get to the tanks first, so support the tanks with infantry of marines and firebats. Firebats and tanks are a great team because all ranged enemies can be destroyed by the tanks while all the melee units can be fried by the firebats. Have a few marines just in case of air units and to do some extra damage. When attacking with tanks, always bring an SCV or two with to repair tanks and to build bunkers. Of course place tanks on high grounds or over close islands to assualt the enemy without any damage.

Another unit that is very important to the Terrans is the science vessel. The science vessel is the only mobile unit that can detect. Unfortunately, they cost a lot of gas(225). If you are playing against a zerg, always make science vessels. A zerg player's nightmare is that all his/her guardians, devourers, and overlords die of radiation. Never hesitate to make science vessels when you have more gas than minerals.

In the late game, ghosts are very useful against the Protoss. Lockdown is very powerful, since the majority of the Protoss force is made up of robots. Lockdown reavers, carriers, scouts and arbiters. Lockdown can also be used against Battlecruisers and Science Vessels. Nuking is also very useful to gain the mineral race. You can use nukes on expansions with medium defence. Nuking on the main mineral source is vital in any game. If the nuke lands successfully and all the resource gathering units are destroyed, you can just have waves and waves of dropships to kill other expansions or the main commanding building/structure.

When using with Battlecruisers, always have 2-3 science vessels for detection. Save up money and make a dozen of Battlecruisers is almost impossible to stop.
