~I'd Go The Whole Wide World - Part 1~

FEBRUARY 13, 1977…

"Which do you think, the blue or the black?" Madison asked walked into Micky's office wearing two different shoes. He was sitting at his desk staring at the blank wall across from him. His glasses dangled from his fingers. "Mick, baby?" She waved her hand in front of his face.

"Huh? What?" He came back to reality.

"You were a million miles away." She answered frustrated. "In fact, you've been doing that a lot lately. What's going on?"

"Its nothing, doll. I'm just tired, I guess." He replied and then smiled. "What are you all dressed up for?"

"Peter's birthday party. Its tonight, remember?" She pointed to his desk calendar. "The babysitter is going to be here any minute."

"Oh, I forgot all about it." He stood up. "I'll be dressed and ready in a flash." He ran out of the room.

"Yeah, you do that." Madison said quietly to herself shaking her head and wondering what was really wrong.

Peter and Samantha had been married on New Year's Day, 1977. They wanted to begin the new year together as one. And now, with their first child on its way soon, they were celebrating Peter's thirty-fifth birthday.

"Speech, speech!" Everyone cheered after Peter blew out the candles.

"I just want to thank everyone for coming." He looked around the room. "This has already been the best year of my life and it can only get better." He wrapped his arm around Samantha's shoulders and lightly rubbed his other hand over her swelling belly.

"Before we cut the cake, I want to give Peter my present." Samantha beamed up at him.

"I love presents." He chuckled.

"Then you should really love this one." She giggled. "My water just broke, I'm in labor."

Peter's eyes grew big. "I'm going to be a father!" He shouted.

"Yes, you are, my love and soon." She laughed. "So, maybe we should be going to the hospital right now."

He kept a protective arm around her as he led her from the room with everyone cheering and sending their best wishes.

"It must be us." Madison commented with a laugh. "Every time that woman is pregnant, she goes into labor when we're around."

"Yeah." Micky gave a shrug not really listening to what she was saying.

"That's the best you can do?" Her voice was full of annoyance. "What the hell is going on with you lately?"

"I don't know what you mean." He answered.

"You know exactly what I mean." She shouted. "For the past three weeks, you've been distancing yourself from me and the kids. You're always working, but you won't tell me on what. Hell, we've hardly spoken lately unless I drag a conversation out of you."

"I told you, doll, I'm just tired." He dismissed her heading for the stairs. "Are you coming to bed?"

"Suddenly, I'm not a bit sleepy." She replied sarcastically.

"Fine, I'll see you in the morning." He walked up the stairs. "Good night."
