Inducted for her Superior Performance

Deb was born in Monroe, WI on June 7, 1963, to parents Dale-(decreased 1999) and Janet Eggen (Hillison). They lived in the Brodhead/Orfordville area through kindergarten then they moved to Beloit. She grew up with 2 brothers (Dale Jr & Jonathan-deceased) and 2 sisters (Sally and Evelyn). All of them bowled over the years, with some still bowling today.

Deb attributes her competitive bowling to her family’s involvement in the sport. Her parents, as well as many aunts and uncles, were bowlers long before she started at the age of 19. Her determination to excel in the sport actually started early on when she would watch her dad; aunts Barb, Louise, and Janet, uncles Bill & Ogden, her Grandmother Ida Hillison and her brothers bowled in the Boys & Girls League on Sunday Night at Bowl Aire Lanes. The Hillison (Eggen/Sather) clan regularly competed weekly with the Caples clan, as these two families pretty much comprised the league. They were very competitive against one another, with many challenges and great memories created along the way. Deb’s mother, Janet, also bowled on the Wednesday Bowl Aire Nifty Fifty league.

Deb’s bowling achievements came from determination and attention to detail. She received a few family tips early in her bowling career, but her desire to achieve specific goals and her inherent bowling talent were the main drivers to her success as one of our top female bowlers in our bowling community.

Deb continued bowling at Bowl Aire Lanes until its closure in 2013. She bowled on the Thursday Nite Women’s League for 25 years. This league moved to Diamond Lanes after Bowl Aire closed and continues under the same league name today. Deb served 10 years on the Rules Committee and this year took over as President.

Deb bowled on numerous other leagues at all three Bowling Centers in the Beloit area. She bowled on the Wednesday Dragonettes League at Viking Lanes for 15 years until her team moved to Diamond Lanes to the Loose Canons League about 10 years ago. Deb served as treasurer for the Dragonettes for 10+ years and as President of the Loose Canons league for 8 years.

Deb gives recognition to all her team Sponsors and fellow bowlers that have been involved with her bowling; Teams…Al’s Angels, Pizza Hut, Rock Title, Courtesy Tuxedo, Finnegan’s RV, Advantage Chiropractic, Foley Electric, Liberty Inn, Diamond Lanes (under Bob Kamppi) and Sather’s Mobil who sponsored her Dragonettes team at Viking Lanes and her Tuesday team in the Loose Canons league at Diamond Lanes. She has bowled with several friends and family members, some of them still today: her mom Janet Deeds, her sisters, Sally Ramsey and Evie Eggen, her aunt Barb Sather, Lee Ann Karashinski, Alecia Arn, Andrea Fiorenza, Angie Schendel, Ronda (Wolf) Thomas, Jennifer (Wolf) Farnum, Patti (Meyer) Smith “Blondie”, Millie Patch, Jen Carpenter, Wendy Wojo Wescott, Kathy Hayden, Becky Blohm, Barb Huffman, Sue Moen, Denise (Moake) Jenson, Nancy Remfrey, Mickey, Rhonda, & Billie Rydberg, Lupita Hernandez, Nikki Barrett, Cheryl (Stevens) Lowery and Kim Finnegan.

Deb has bowled in 25 City and State Women’s Tournaments and 1 Women’s National Tournament in 1992. She has bowled in the WI State Women Queens Tournament for 8 years (a two-day prestigious tournament consisting of 144 top bowlers with elimination to 30 for step ladder elimination on Sunday). Deb made it to the step ladder Sunday eliminations 6 years.

Deb and Wendy Wojo paired in 2007 to bowl in Deb’s first State 600 Club tournament in Watertown. Deb and Paula Maxted partnered in 2009 to compete in this Doubles/Singles Tournament and will compete in November back in Watertown where she first participated in the State 600 Tournament.

Deb substituted for Dawn last year in the State Women’s Senior Tournament held in Beloit. Since Deb & Paula have similar skills and averages they have decided to continue as partners in this tournament and will compete this year in Baraboo. This tournament is also Doubles/Singles but divisions are by age…so they will probably be in same age division for a little while.

Although Deb and Paula have never bowled on the same team they do partner in tournaments. Deb stated, “We enjoy the competition in league too much. We always push one another to bowl better for bragging rights”.

Deb’s bowling accomplishments consist of one 299 game and five 300 games; her first 300 was very memorable as she bowled it in the last game of the Daily News Holiday Tournament at Viking Lanes on 12/30/99; also winning the Women’s Division that year. This was her second Daily New Holiday Women’s Division Championship, her first was in 1992. She has bowled forty-two 700 series and holds 5th high city series. Her Sather’s team holds 4th high team handicap series of 2782 in the Beloit USBC WBA City Tournament in 2010. She has been the Beloit USBC WBA Bowler of the Year in the High Average category in ‘92/93, ‘04/05, & ‘12/13 seasons. She has received numerous High Average and High Series Awards throughout her bowling career.

Deb currently bowls on Tuesday Nite on the Loose Cannon’s league and on the Thursday Nite Bowl Aire Women’s League at Diamond Lanes. She has been employed by Taylor-Freezer for 28 years and is currently Customer Billing Supervisor/Credit Manager.

Deb and Steve Hahn married on 1/1/99 and today they share their 4-legged children (special dogs Button & Fairbanks; and cats Odil, Scooter and Sissy. Although Steve is not active in bowling like Deb is anymore, he appreciates her bowling talent and supports her involvement with the bowling community.

In her spare time Deb likes to travel, especially to Florida, golf, fish, play softball and pretty much anything else that might be competitive.
