Arvaskniven is made by father and son. Stig and Johan Hermansson. Stig has been hunting for over 60 years and has therefore always had an interest in knives. In the 1960's he started making his own knives and tried many different models. The model that is used today came about in the early 1990's. At that time Stig's son, Johan, had also started making knives and they both agreed that the design used today was the model they where going to continue to handcraft.

The name of the knife derives from the name of a lake, Arvesjaur, which is situated in Stigs hunting grounds in the mountain area of Arjeplog in northern Sweden. Stig adopted the same name the locals called the lake, Arvas, as the name of his knife.
