Little Star Jacoby

A star shines above from Heaven tonight
As a diamond that is cut both pure and so bright,
We mourn and we grieve and then wonder why
And sadly again we all begin to cry.

Jesus was waiting in a garden just for you
He beckoned to Jacoby with eyes of so blue,
He reached down and grabbed you and hugged you so tight
And whispered quite softly, "No more pain is in sight."

Your Heavenly Father had a new plan
A mission for you, He took you by the hand,
Through fields of wild flowers, past rivers so wide
He explained His ideas, you nodded and sighed.

Then you looked all around and there was your prize
A hug and a cookie from a lady so wise.
She looked so familiar, you questioned, "Those eyes?"
"I've seen them before. Who are you?" you cried.

"I'm your Grandma, Jacoby," she said with a smile
"I've been waiting here for you, for quite a long while."
"There's someone else waiting for you to greet."
And out came Buddy Boy and jumped at your feet.

For five little years we watched you grow
You taught brother Jordan everything that you know.
We saw your face smile, you ran races, climbed trees
And now your life here has gone out with the breeze.

So many things left undone, unsaid and untried
Playing at recess, football games with the guys.
Drawing and coloring a picture to please
To hang on the frig for a month, two or three.

Your favorite song we will sing, for you, if you please
"Yes, Jesus loves me" in two part harmonies.
We'll miss you, Jacoby, but this we are sure,
A star shines so bright, from Heaven, it is YOU!

This is dedicated to the memory of my nephew, Jacoby James Kruse. Jacoby was killed by a drunk driver four days after his fifth birthday and never got to spend his first day in Kindergarten. While waiting to hear word from the hospital, family members gathered and shared thoughts about Jacoby. I later wrote this poem, which was read at his funeral. We miss you, Jacoby, and we know God's mission for you was being Guardian Angel to all your cousins left behind. You and Buddy Boy are doing a fantastic job and we know we'll see you again someday soon! We love you, Little One!

Special thanks to MidnightDrmer and LadyDrmer for encouraging me to create this page, without their help this page would, still, only be a dream.

Please check out my other original poetry, which I began writing in October, 1998. I hope to be adding more as time goes on, so feel free to bookmark this page and refer back from time to time.
