(Note: Family came from the port of Glasgow, Scotland on sailing ship Tuskina with Samuel O. Williams, Captain, departing Rotterdam on 8 May 1848 and landing in New York on 11 September 1848. On the ship's passenger list were William (age 25), Isabella (age 23), Cathrine (age 3), John Allerdice (age 12 - possibly 12 months){has proved to be John born to William and Isabella on 24 Aug 1846; probably said age 2}, and Cathrine Young (age 69). For a long time it was thought that this was William's mother, but I have found records that indicate that she was Isabella's mother. It is not known why she was listed as Cathrine Young, not Cathrine King on the passenger list. Isabella, John, and Cathrine all died in Boston of cholera during the first winter after they arrived. William then traveled to St. Louis with his two young children. There he married Mary Bankhead. Mary's family came from Scotland and had settled in Boston. I wondered if she traveled with him to St. Louis. Another question to look into.(The marriage license for Mary and William lists his name as William L. Dyce.)

Isabell Alerdice b. 1824 in Cambuslang, Lanark, Scotland married John King in Rutherglen, Lanark, Scotland in 1845. It is possible that this was sister to William Allerdice and brother to Isabella King Allerdice. John and Isabell King had a son, Alexander King, born 24 Jan 1853 in Cambuslang. (This theory has proved partially correct.I will be adding further information.)
