KELLY

JAMES >>>>> ROBERT >>>>> JAMES ALVIN >>>>> SUSAN MARIE

James Kelly, the first known ancestor to the Kelly family of southern Iowa, came to this country in the mid 1880s from Scotland. I have very little information on the man or his wife, Mary Reid. I know that he was a coal miner and owned a coal mine in Appanoose County, Iowa. He lived in Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland before coming to the US. I now have information that shows that he was married near Riccarton and that my grandfather, Robert Kelly, was born in Riccarton.

NOTE: I have no factual information on the parents of James Kelly, but am working on clues that they may have been James and Agnes Muir Kelly, with the line leading to James Kelly and Agnes Muir Kelly, James and Mary Templeton Kelly, to Andrew and Jean Gemmil Kelly, Alexander Gemmel and Jean Smyllie Gemmel, and John Kelly and Jean Scott Kelly. I welcome (and greatly appreciate) any information/speculation that may aid in proving or disproving this theory.
