The trail we followed is an old "ditchman" trail. Once used by the men who maintained the Waiahole Ditch System. At one time long ago it was paved with lava stones like this section. Much of this paving is still in pretty good shape.
This section of the trail had many huge Ekaha (birdnest) firns growing high in the trees.
